Title: Price Check on a 550 Safari Magnum in .416 Rigby
Post by: mparrish on March 04, 2004, 01:58:58 PM
Been fired maybe five times, like NIB, leather sling, 4x boxes of ammo, topped with a new Loopy VARI-X III 1.5-5.

On consignment at my favorite store for $1050.  Seems a bit high but I'm not up to speed on values on these and don't have a values book with me.  Any ideas?

CZ-USA's suggested mfgr. sales price for the .416 Rigby alone is $833.00(taxes non incl.), based on the Blue book price for select walnut (which the Safari is considered to be by CZ-UB), the price for a 100% condition: $748.00 U.S.(taxes non incl.). The price of the scope + mount(beware the prices & quality of these can change considerably the $worth $50-$500) & sling(which brings the pricing difference of $302.00) would bring this deal to a plain price:( no bargain BUT you're not getting screwed in the process).

The guy is pretty much asking for what he has in it.  Unless you are talking about true collectors items, guns and scopes are like cars.  Once you drive it off the lot it is used and the price reflects that used status.  This is especially true of scopes.  I can get the rifle new for under $700.00.  The scope adds little real value, any scope you see new in a store has been marked up a minimumum of double over cost.  That should give you a starting point of scope values.  Also, I would be concerned about the 1" Leupold holding up to the recoil of a 416 Rigby.  Personally, I would pass on the deal.
