Title: Small ring Mausers
Post by: Fred Flinstone on January 20, 2003, 07:26:02 PM
I've tried a few action wrenches to unscrew various M-96 but end up twisting and scrapping these action, I've been told that these were quenced in Nitrogen to mount the barrel to the actions. This could be possible, has anybody had success unscrewing these? What's the secret method?

Fred my gunsmith says if your not saving barrel lathe cut a groove close to reciever ring around barrel to relieve the torque on shoulder and soak good with penetrant oil for a few days. Also he has done a bunch and saved barrels but he has made his own custom fit barrel bushings and wrench heads. I heard somewhere about heating ring and letting melted paraffin seep into the threads too before trying to remove em. aaron10
