Title: Love my 10mm, but....
Post by: mrcabinet on November 06, 2023, 05:54:57 PM
Taking it down just to clean is a royal pain since arthritis started creeping into my hands. And yes, for you youngsters, getting old sucks. Anyway, to make the process easier, I made a simple wood block that I clamp in a vise. It greatly helps with the takedown process. Thought I'd share it so anyone else with the same issue can hopefully benefit from it. The pics are pretty self explanatory, but feel free to ask any questions.

I remember an article in (I think) Guns & Ammo a few years ago, describing a man who had made something similar to simply chamber a round in his 45.

I finally let my son take over my old 1911, more due to the sights than my hands...but both were factoring in. I gave him the Hi Power too. Back to my old wheel gun. But I dont shoot handguns that much anymore anyways.

Thanks, I like it!

I have a Guncrafter 10mm that I enjoy thoroughly, but recently put an ambi safety on it for my right wrist can no longer take it.  I still have my .44 mag collection, but haven't shot more than specials in years now.  Times certainly do change.  Might have to follow your lead there one day.

welcome

do what works.  for some, they may not have the skills to make/design something.

but i remember in my SD/CCW class the instructor mentioned about using the edge of a table or similar to rack the slide if your other hand/arm is incapacitated.  Also how we should practice doing 1 handed unloading/loading.  both weak and strong

ymmv.
