Title: Cz 75b 40s&w
Post by: Seancz75b_40 on January 09, 2024, 07:54:28 PM
Hey all new here,  picked up a used cz 75b 40s&w, love it.....from what I think its a 2003 and I've heard 02-03 had issues...  Mine seem to eject them fine..  I get usually 30 rounds and it'll start jamming,  I've tried different ammo, oil and clean,  dropped off had feed ramp polished,  it doesn't do it nearly as much but still does it.   I got a cz for the reliable factor...  I had a couple buddies shoot it and a indoor range supervisor,  jams for other people too...   help?!?!😅😅😅🥲🥲🥲🥲 :'(

I  also have a 2003 40S&W and they are known for poor extraction, leading to stovepipes or double feeds,

Remove the extractor check it for chipping (unlikely), clean it and the gunk in the groove groove, re-install, preferably with a Wolff +10% extractor spring.

I noticed mine has after market grips and I think sights,  I'm told the guide spring and rail are not stock I haven't checked extractor,  anyway to tell if its factory or aftermarket? Thanks for fast reply

If your gun is jamming, then the extractor groove is almost certainly dirty and the spring OEM. It;s a quick fix - once you have the new spring.

And should note it will jam on first round racking.

This could be a magazine problem. Do you have other mags to try?

I do and same problem,  other than gunsmith polishing ramp,  it looked good and acted fine for them.   I'm an auto mechanic and know the struggle,  Just like when your car is broke until you try to show mechanic haha.   I'm hoping the extractor springs help.

Here's one of the issues. Not saying it's yours, but....  40S&W is a purely American cartridge. No one in Europe shoots it. On top of that, by law they can only get FMJ in Europe. No hollow points, no conicals, no Flat Points, none. So the gun was designed around and for FMJ.

So if you are not shooting FMJ, then start. When you get FMJ to feed OK, then progress to bullet shapes that mimic the FMJ very closely.

See if that helps.

That's what I was told when I called cz, they said try different ammo and avoid hollow point.   I've been at this for weeks I've tried federal, fiocci, Speer, etc.  All fmj.  Sick of wasting ammo/money.  That's why I had other people shoot it thinking it was me.   Anyone wana buy a cz?😅 lmao

Sounds like someone modified it.  Who knows why.  Maybe they got rid of it because they couldn't figure out how to get it running.

All the advice for cleaning, lubing, new spring, FMJ ammo, etc. is good advice.  Might think about also replacing the extractor.

My CZ75B .40 (and my Tactical Sport .40) don't seem to know .40 isn't a reliable caliber for them.  Hollow points. too.  I've not tried factory hollow points in either, just my Nosler 135 grain hollow points.

Jamming?  When the slide tries to move the round from the top of the magazine and into the chamber?  You said it ejects fine.  If it's ejecting "fine" it sounds like a failure to feed/chamber issue.

New recoil spring/guide - factory ones work in all my .40 CZs (about 5 of them but three are the plastic framed models).

Got an owner's manual?  Lube it per the owner's manual.  If you don't have the owner's manual there are threads here on the forum about where/how much lube to use - yeah, we all use different lubes and some of us lube stuff/parts others don't but it'll give you a good starting point and insure your pistol is lubed.

Do you use the slide release to chamber that first round?  That works.  Do you grab the back of the slide and pull it far enough to the rear for the slide lock to disengage and then just let it go to chamber that first round?  That works well also.  Do you pull the slide to the rear and then hold on to it while easing it forward?  That can be a recipe for problems.  It won't hurt it to just allow the recoil spring to use it's full force to chamber that round.

Good luck with it.  CZ .40's can be reliable as the 9MM models.  Many of us have .40 S&W CZ pistols and many people compete with them on a regular basis.

I don't have the manual im sure its online though,im going to do the extractor springs this week if time allows,  possibly order new extractor if its damaged,..   but first round I've racked every way possible,  when it jams its random I can't usually make it jam "on command"   I showed a few "gun" guys and they all got cold feet and said take to a gunsmith.   So I did and they said it seems fine and the polished feed ramp.   Its much much better but still jams to often.

That is an extractor caused failure to feed.  This is easily fixed by removing the extractor, cleaning the crud out of the channel and extractor, and reinstalling.  Apply a rust preventative but wipe it off and leave the extractor dry.  Inspect the extractor claw and breech face for any burr's or damage.  Once reassembled, slide a cartridge up the breech face under the extractor claw.  It should slide up smooth and there shouldn't be anything binding.

I haven't found that extra power extractor springs work better on my TSO's in 40S&W.  You might try just cleaning first.

Let us know.

Cheers,
Toby

Just got my extractor springs today!   also ordered 2 new mags waiting on those still,  going to do the spring this weekend if time allows.  And tips, looks pretty simple, should I get a new pin or reuse original

It is fairly straight forward.  I'd stake the pin when reassembled.  You don't want it working it's way down into the action.  You don't need a new pin but it is always nice to have a backup in the event you lose it or damage it.

Cheers,
Toby
