Title: bul armory cherokee
Post by: giwatcher on April 15, 2024, 10:36:41 AM
New purchase full size cherokee, cz clone, comes with two 17 round mags. One mag holds 16 at best the other 15 at best. I do not believe the spring can relax enough by loading and storing as a way to correct this deficiency, as the seller says. There is certainly no way to get from 15 to 17 rounds. If break in relaxes the spring, then it also reduces the feeding force, so that failure to feed would occur. Anyone else with the same problem? The mags are stamped with a T in side a circle, no other markings. I suspect it is produced by Tangfolio.

Definitely Tanfoglio. I’ve run into that problem before too. They’re not always the best quality magazines. Grab some MecGar mags. Nice buy though. Welcome to the forum.

Since both are 17 round mags per advertisement, and one holds only 15 and one holds 16, can I expect the springs to relax with use, or is that idea expressed by others "folk lore". Seems to me that the tensile strength of a spring has to remain constant to avoid failure to feed issues. Surely there is no way a 15 round max can ever increase by 2 rounds? Appreciate any wisdom that can be offered.

Generally, Springs wear out by cycling. Having a Magazine fully loaded exerts a constant tension and should not wear the Spring much.

Side note: I use an Uplula Magazine Loader and have no problem loading my Tanfoglio and Mec-Gar Magazines to full capacity.
When I shoot USPSA/IPSC Matches, I like to have all the rounds I can get!

Yes I use an uplula loader to save thumb wear. This is not a deficiency on my part, it is a magazine capacity problem. It seems you are saying it won't improve over time, especially the mag that only holds 15 instead of 17.

If those magazines will not fill to full capacity, per manufacturer recommendation, then I would get with the manufacturer, assuming you purchased it new. I’ve had a couple of those Cherokee pistols and did not have any issues filling the magazines to full capacity.
