Title: NJ: 1 out of 4 of my references cannot submit questionaire - now what?
Post by: fingerblister on June 20, 2024, 05:31:35 AM
Like the title says, For personal reasons, one of my references can't complete the questionnaire. NJ requires four non-blood related individuals to vouch for you as part of the online application process. I just received an automated reminder that one of my references has not submitted their questionnaire...

All their contact information is collectively submitted in one go along with the rest of the online form, so you can't just or update or change anything separately after the fact. Real PITA.

My other three people already submitted two weeks ago. Without having to start the whole application process all over again, is there a way I can get this thing moving forward with a new 4th person? Someone I can call maybe? Local or state police?

Time to get out of Joisey.

Either hire a lawyer who has the onions too challenge this unconstitutional law or move to a more gun friendly state.

Me just complaining about my states gun laws, requirements and impositions, or packing 85 boxes at 61 years old, putting my house on the market and telling my wife we’re moving to a different state doesn’t seem quite practical.

Seriously, I was just hoping someone might know how I could replace the one reference that can’t vouch for me without having to resubmit the application entirely.

If resubmitting the application is the only way to replace the reference then it would seem that's all you can do. You could try contacting someone who handles the apps and see what they say or contact an attorney and get their take on the situation otherwise you're at the mercy of the broken machine in NJ.

Bribery? That seems to be the way to get things done in corrupt blue states.

I suppose it depends on your priorities. That’s why I left commiefornia 35 years ago. I saw the writing on the wall and have never once regretted leaving there.

Let's just try and refrain from the stupid remarks about bribery, moving house and other cliches and attempt to actually help the OP with his problem.

I would also remind members about the 'No Profanity', even disguised profanity, rule on this forum.

This is not the right forum for your question.  A better place would be reddit's subforum dedicated to NJ & guns.

I wouldn't expect much help at a local or municipal level, but much of the relevant paperwork gets processed through the State police in West Trenton.  I'd think communication through the Superintendent's office there might be more appropriate.

NJ resident here, did you apply through your local PD or the NJ State Police? If you applied through your local PD I wouldn't waste time contacting the NJSP, but maybe contact your local PD for advice if they are supportive. If not, is it possible to rescind your application and start over?  Probably stating the obvious, but in the future, check with any references prior to submitting them as such. Without politicizing the situation, it's obvious that our governor and the majority of legislators are vehemently opposed to the 2nd. Best of luck to you.

They’ll usually let you swap in a new name over the phone. If not, just grab someone else you trust—like a coworker or neighbor—and have them fill out the form.
