I just saw RMR is making silver jacketed bullets with a zinc/copper alloy have any of you tried them? They are about the price of copper plated or Hitek coated bullets. With the high cost of copper they my be a good alternative.

A common alloy of zinc and copper — often 1/3rd zinc and 2/3rd copper — is brass. Current spot prices are: zinc — $1.36/lb; copper — $4.29/lb. Brass is more corrosion resistant than copper, and it is stronger (resists deformation more) than copper.

Well I broke down and bought a couple thousand of RMR's new silver zinc jacketed 9mm 130gr FMJRN bullets. They ran through my Mr. Bullet feeder and loaded just like my old stand by RMR 124gr copper jacketed bullets. When I shot them they felt the same as the copper and the POI was also the same. Clean up was easy so I'll be buying more in the future.

Well for me the new RMR Nukes are super. I ordered 3K during the Christmas sale and couldn't be happier. I set them up and plunked them in my P-07 which seems to have the tightest/shortest lead of all my CZ pistols. I also checked them in my Staccato P and they plunk and drop out easily. So after some initial testing and checking, I'm geared up and loading all 3K! Took a break today and ran over to the range and did some drills and such but then shot a 10rd group from a rest @ 50ft at the end of the day. I was pretty happy, to say the least. I'm a block head and can never figure how to post/edit the pic,so here is a link and hopefully you guys can see it. If not let me know & I'll try again,LOL.

Thank you. I was impressed with it myself. I am using the new RMR Nukes, as stated, and they are the 120 grn JHP. I see guys post that they bought 130 grn ones, but I never saw them when I bought these. I'm using once-fired Winchester brass and GINEX SPP. I love power pistol powder and that's what I am using, right @ 5.8 grains with 6.4 being MAX so all is good, I did some testing and even loaded 6grns with 0 signs of any issues but just figured I would bring it down to the 5.8. Power pistol does let ya know that that's what you're shooting for sure with a bigger bang & flash, but it doesn't bother me & the gun likes the combo, it's clean and accurate out of my guns. I have about 1300 out of the 3K loaded and my 550 has been working daily,LOL. Once the weather warms up, these will be fun outside and I can start hitting some steel and plate racks. Only 3 more months of winter,LOL::)

One thing I've noticed is a little more clean up is required with the zinc jacketed bullets. I've loaded and fired several thousand of both the 130 gr FMJ and the 120 gr Nuke and I'm finding little flakes of zinc like glitter. It's no big deal a brass brush and good old No. 9 takes care of it.

I noticed after shooting a couple of my 9mm pistols from a sand bag the RMR zinc bullets left a bit of silver glitter on the bench. And when cleaning my Sig P365 it's PMM comp. had accumulated quite a bit of zinc flakes. I don't think I'm going to try them in a suppressor please let me know If any of you have.

I've done more testing with RMR's zinc jacketed bullets but this time in my Ruger LCR 9mm revolver. This little 1.85" barrel revolver hates them after less than 50 rounds the barrel was coated with zinc and took about an hour to clean. I thought my loading process might be undersizing the .3555" bullets so I pulled a few and they measured .3552". I also noticed every 4th or 5th bullet had almost jumped out of the cartridge from recoil. That has not happened with regular copper jacketed bullets.
I pulled the powder funnel from the my Dillon powder measure and reduced the end that goes into the case by .001" making sure not to touch the part that flares the case mouth thinking that might hold the bullet tighter but it didn't help.

:) Thanks, good info. I don't shoot or have a 9mm revolver but it's good info for sure. Let Jake @ RMR know about the issue. I think he would be open to any additional info about these bullets. Keep us posted.
