Title: Who here uses their CZ75b in production or SSP divisions?

I decided to give my CZ 75b stainless a go in my club’s USPSA & IDPA matches this March.  I want to shoot production division & SSP division.  This means I need to manually lower the hammer to remain in those divisions.

Curious how many others do this.  I normally shoot my decockers (SP01T, P07/9), but wanted to try my 75 for a change.  Recently I’ve been shooting striker guns, so I expect to slowly “make ready” to ensure I’m safe.

I’ll report back with my experiences.  Hopefully no bobbles & resultant DQ.

I use a 75B Shadow in SSP, a S2C in CCP, and a steel frame P-01 in CCP.  All of them have safeties and I manually lower the hammers for a DA first shot.  You don’t have to shoot the first shot in DA for CCP, but the safeties on the S2C and P-01 are so small that I can’t manipulate them reliably.  Also, that is the way I carry them, so that is the way I shoot them in competition.  The only nuance is that per the IDPA rules:  “If the hammer must be lowered by pulling the trigger and manually lowering the hammer, the hammer will be lowered to the lowest position possible.”  The hammer can’t rest on half cock.  I have never had an issue manually lowering the hammers.

I don't shoot IDPA but do compete in USPSA with my Accushadow 2 in Carry Optics.  I manually lower the hammer using the pinch between my weak hand index and thumb and lower it slowly.  My other fingers on my weak hand are landed/perched on the gun somewhere for stability.  It's second nature now but initially I was a little cautious.  I tried the roll your thumb/finger method out from under the hammer and it just doesn't feel as safe.  If I had a spur hammer, I might be more inclined to use the finger roll method as it doesn't have the ring hole to grab.

USPSA has the same dumb rule that you have to lower the hammer fully.  Half cock should be legal and is safer for all parties.  It is that way for decockers so why isn't it the same for safety models?

Thanks for the feedback.  Guess, it’s something I’ll become more comfortable with, the more I perform it.  Been practicing at home with an empty gun and am getting more comfortable.  We’ll see if I encounter any issues in the colder temps outside in March.

I like the gun quite a bit and want to give it some range fun.

I shoot IDPA/SSP with a SP01 Shadow.  I load mag, rack slide, than pinch hammer with fingers on left hand and slowly lower hammer, finally holster.  Easy, just go slow;  the race has not started till the beep.  😁

I’m thinking about trying Carry Optics this year with a heavily modified Shadow 2.  Trying to get used to a dot with dry fire practice

I shoot an Accushadow 2 in USPSA and use the thumb roll method.  I place my thumb between the hammer and the firing pin, pull the trigger, then slowly roll my thumb forward and out of the way.  During hot Summer days when my hands are dripping sweat, the pinch method is just too risky for me.

I guess it depends on your location, here in the high desert I don't have sweaty hands to contend with :).  Plus I use grip enhancer too to aid in gun holding which also helps with the hammer drop operation.

Try both out and see which feels more comfortable.  Your mileage may vary.

I have regularly shot my Cz's and Tanfoglio Pistols in Limited Class IPSC.  The only problem I have had are Range Officers, unfamiliar with the design and wanting to DQ me for manually decocking.
Fortunately, the Range Masters intervened.

Used to shoot my 75B stainless in USPSA Production.  Love that pistol , got me some GM classifiers with it as well.

We didn’t have any matches yet, weather cancelled both - 50 mph winds and snow respectively.  Not good to have walls , barrels blown over while shooting :o

In preparation for tomorrow’s match, and to help a new shooter to IDPA, I set up a stage to run us through.  Intent was to give my buddy some understanding of the game and what to watch out for.  This is his first match.

That said, I used the opportunity to practice with my stainless 75b.  I had no issues with decocking the gun.  Will shoot it in SSP and likely at next month’s USPSA match.

Be prepared for some SOs that are unfamiliar with DA/SA to give you a hard time.  You may want to tell them before you "make ready" that you are going to manually decock the gun, per IDPA rules.
