Title: Welcome to Club SP-01
Post by: Radom on December 11, 2007, 02:03:12 PM

This section of the CZ Forum is dedicated to discussion of the CZ SP-01 family of pistols.

The SP-01 is essentially a full-size version of the successful P-01 Compact. In addition to the SP-01, a CZ-USA Custom Shop model is marketed for the U.S. In Europe, the SP-01 Shadow offers similar features to the custom model.

can anyone tell me about the spo1 shadowmate, i just purchased one last week.  It is a upgarded version as far as i understand.  Does anyone have one yet and if so how do you like it.  I really am interested in some reviews.  I paid 1350 for this baby and would like to know am i getting what i paid for.  I know spo1 shadows are great guns for competitive shooting and that is what i am going to be doing.  Any feedback would be great.

I shoot a couple 9mm Walthers and just got my C75 SP-01 Tgt...what a beautiful gun.  I have shot 115 grain 9mm in my Walthers and wonder if anyone uses a heavier bullet with consistent good results....

My son shoots the 9mm Custom Shadow and I shoot a 9mm 75B.   The heavier 124 gr give 'US' less felt recoil at the same power factor as the 115gr bullets.

We both found 124 gr bullets improved our speed (follow-on shots) and had good accuracy for gun games.  Some like the "snappier" feel of the 115gr, and some prefer the slow push of the 147gr.  The 124gr is what the 9mm was designed for.

It's a shooter's preference/choice.

Ive owned a few CZ's and my last cz purchased was an sp-01. I have loved them all but the sp-01 I bought a few years back is one of those guns that will remain in my possession to the end. What a great shooting and quality piece. I am a huge fan of the sp-01 platform. My dream for it is to send it to CZ custom for a full spa treatment. I will be haunting these pages for as long as you all can stand me. ;)

I prefer the 9 mm in 124 grain in all my 9 mm CZ's. I believe the accuracy is more consistent, although the accuracy with the 115 grn is good as well.
I think it is just a personal preference and what you are accustomed to.
After all, it's a CZ it's going to be accurate!

I have a CZ SP-01. Does anyone know if EAA/tanbleeplio witness magazines will work in it? I live in Colorado and can't get the 18 rounders anymore because of gun grabber politics.

Belizejet use the factory 10 rounders. Most of the other brands won't lock the slide back on last round fired.

Does me no good. I'll find some as "repair kits". I refuse to use 10 rounders out of principle.

Wish they carried these Dark Side models in the United States. There custom made guns using cz 75 bases.

I just picked up a sp-01 SAO conversion done by cz custom. This is the best shooting gun i've ever shot . It is more impressive at the range than my sig x5. I let two people shoot this gun and both hit a bullseye at 20 yards on the first shot. Nothing more to say .

Hi all,

FNG checking in.  I just picked up my brand new CZ 75 SP-01 yesterday.  I've yet to shoot it but that will change soon.  First mod will be installing some thinner grips.  I'm currently leaning towards the VZ G10 grips.

I always do trigger work to my guns, so this one will get a trigger job at some point.  I've been looking at Cajun Gun Works' page and can already feel my wallet getting thinner.  Are there any easy, cheap, or must-do mods I can do myself?  I'd like a lighter crisper trigger, and wouldn't mind bringing the trigger in closer to the grip, especially in DA.

Thanks!

FYI, you should prob just post in the actual SP-01 board not this stickied post. But regarding your question, most likely, the easiest and cheapest mods you can do is changing your Recoil Spring and Hammer/Main Spring. I, myself, did 13# for both springs. Many others do a 11# Recoil and 13# Main/Hammer. Changing the Hammer spring along with a reduced power trigger return spring will noticeably change the DA and a bit on your single action. This will prob cost you <$30 with s/h

Thanks for the info.  My plan is to send a few hundred rounds through it before changing anything.  I'll check out that section of the forum.

Forgive me, I am fairly new at all of this.  I own a Shadow 2, does it actually still qualify as part of the SP-01 family?

Thanks.

This is a good question and have been wondering it myself.  Is the Shadow 2 as much of an SP-01 as an SP-01 Shadow?

I owned a SHADOW 2 and soon sold it as is not allowed in IDPA, it's a very nice pistol but is too big and heavy.
The ordinary SP01 SHADOW fits perfectly in my hand, shoots extremely well, and its back serrations are much more practical than the SHADOW 2  ones.
IMHO

"On the forum" the S2 is included in this section which also includes all the competition model CZs.
The S2 is a new option for Comp.  With a longer bbl and other refinements for fast accurate comp. shooting.

I have a SP-01 Akai Shadow that I used for USPSA Production. I tried it in IDPA but got tired of that game. I tested a Shadow 2 and really liked how it fit my hands and shot out of the box.
So now the SP-01 is getting switched to Limited...

I find it hard to believe that a half of a gram difference in bullet weight would make any difference at all.

It makes a significant difference in 9mm, if for no other reason than available case volume.  It's a very small case when you start trying to reload anything over 1,000 fps.

Also, most people who do a lot of rapid-fire drills have a marked preference in bullet weight.

I just joined  :) the club  . Was looking for my 1st all metal pistol , up until now all my pistols were poly . My first CZ was a P-09 and I liked it  . Decided to trade in my PPQ M2 towards a SP-01 Tactical (got a fair trade in ) . The PPQ is a great poly striker pistol but now I can spend time with my new CZ all metal pistol . So far I am really liking it . Much more hefty than a poly gun . Should I upgrade it ? so many options lol .

I'd just shoot it for 300-500 rounds. If this an NIB pistol, it does have a "break in" period, regardless of any other considerations.  If it is "used," but new to you, then you still need to shoot it a bit.

I've bought quite a few guns over the years with the "budget" that other people spend on every new pistol that they buy.

Well it was sold as new as it was manufactured in 2019 . I will heed your advice and shoot it for a while before any upgrades . So far a 100 rounds no issues . Thanks for the advice !

Just purchased my first handgun which is sp 01 tactical.  Put 150 rounds through it the first day I got it.   Feels great and love the way it feels.  Any suggestion on things I should expect over the break in period.  Again, I am new to hand guns so it feels great to me and love everything about how it functions and handles.

Bought a new Shadow 2 Black/Blue today and got 100 rounds through her before dark—Nice, nice pistol.  I’ve got an SP-01 Tactical and it’s nice, but the trigger (stock) is nowhere near as crisp or light as the Shadow2.

I picked up an SP-01 Tactical yesterday. It's a 2018 model, Urban Gray, suppressor ready, night sights. I had read about them and seen some YouTube vids was impressed with all I saw.
I got to the range this morning. I 3 kinds of ammo, S&B, Blazer Brass, and mystery ammo that the range shop sells. All were 115gr FMJ. The pistol fed, shot and ejected all perfectly. Accuracy was very impressive, would have been a lot better if a better shooter was shooting it. Recoil is very light too. For a full sized steel gun it shoots really soft. I like the tall sights, they were easy to use.
All in all, it is a very impressive pistol. This one is going to replace my 75D Compact as my favorite shooter, but just a little.

eagle! have owned a p-01 for 8 yrs and just picked up my sp-01 , i gave cgw innerd in both with the sp-01 having the pro pkg installed and all the polishing. installed vz tactical diamond grips on the compact and the full size has the same grips on the way.  looking foreward to my first trip to the range as well. i am guessing the all steel is a softer shooting pistol than the compact. how much i will soon see!

New to the forum, pistol shooting and CZs.
Bought an sp01 at the end of 2021.
Have about 1500 rounds through it now and a two day defensive handgun class with it (rookie numbers I know).
I love it and have not doubted that it was a great choice for a first pistol and home defense firearm. The more I have learned and tried other pistols the more I am glad I picked the sp01.

Planning on changing the sights to dawson precision fixed competition soon and this forum has been a super valuable resource.

Cheers!

Also new on the forum here. From Belgium [emoji1045][emoji16]

Started with shooting sports since January, got my license and all that in May. I had the chance to shoot an old 75B all the time at the club and also shot about 60 rounds with a Shadow 1 from a club member so i knew i had to get one.

So after 6-7 weeks waiting for the gun permit i finally have my Shadow 1. Can't wait to shoot it tomorrow. [emoji16] I have S&B 124gr FMJ.
