Mods please move this if it is in the wrong forum. I didn't know where to put it.
I came across a CZ-99 on Gunsamerica last night. Looks sweet. Never seen one. Does anyone here own one? Supposed to be very rare! Based on the Sig P226.

I dont know if i would call them "Rare". IIRC there wasnt alot imported due to the country of origins political instabiliity or human rights issues. they were contracted out under different names/countires too. IIRC, it was also sold under the name of "Golan" too.
If you check out EAAs web site they are importing the newest version as the EZ-05.
I personally think they have some unique features. IE. no separate slide stop. Ambi controls. the decocker acts as a slide stop and decocker.
The barrel/chamber is chromed lined FWIW to those that want it.
btw. i do have one but havent shot it yet.

I don't have a CZ 99, but I obtained its successor, the CZ 999, a couple of years back when KBI was bringing them in as the Charles Daly ZDA. I got mine from CDNN when they were liquidating them for $290 apiece. Here are some pictures I took of it not long after its acquisition (just click on the thumbnail for the full image):

The CZ 999/ZDA is an accurate but somewhat unrefined clone of the Sig P226. I had to make some rather major modifications to mine to get a halfway decent trigger pull.

One of the reasons for lack of answers here is that the CZ-99 et. al. were not made by "our" CZ but by Zastava in Yugoslavia. Different company entirely.

It's true. Zastava took advantage of the fact that "CZ" cannot be trademarked, but being made in Serbia it stretches the "CZ" notion of a "Czech arms factory." I've read that "Crvena Zastava" means "red flag" in Serbian, so they aren't playing it too loosely with the name.
The CZ99 is reputed to work pretty well, but when I read years ago that its slide is made from sheet metal with a separate breach plug pinned to it... well... I just didn't have a burning urge to get one.

. . . similar to how the slides on the Sig P225 were made, you mean?
From this post at The High Road (http://www.thehighroad.org/showpost.php?p=3425213&postcount=1):The slide is formed from a heavy steel stamping, with a separate bolt pinned into place.
You don't see any complaints about them. . .

Zastava also is the only manufacturer that is still producing a pistol in 7.62 x 25. It's kind of an updated Tokarev. I contacted Charles Daly years ago about the possibility of importing it, but never got a response. Here's a pic of the Zatava Model 57 Lux

I would like to see an American company start making a 7.62x25 handgun.
I like those CZ-99s BTW. I wish I could get one, but no go here in California.

Is the CZ 99 C&R eligible and what caliber is it?

It won't be C&R eligible until 2038 (if we still have C&R licenses then).

I have a ZDA. It is a fantastic pistol and has never had any type of failure even after thousands of rounds through it of the cheapest 9mm ammo. The only issue that came up with my ZDA which is a CZ999 scorpion, is that it has an enameled finish on the frame, which I have impacted by using gunblaster. Had I realized that the finish was vulnerable, I wouldn't have used such a cleaner on it. The slide is blued.
This pistol looks good and works even better. It is a sig knockoff with improvements on the design by zastava.
The CZ-99 is the forerunner of the CZ999, but very similar. I use CZ-99 mags in my CZ999. If you want to know more, this is a great website.

I thought the CZ-99 (or Israeli Golan or South African TZ-99), ZDA, or the current EAA versions all have forged slides. I know SIG once used the stamped slides but am pretty sure they have dropped that method of construction. That said, I know of no problems with stamped slides. Indeed, the older stamped slide SIG's seem to be more desirable to many.
