Title: Question about coatings.
Post by: CZnewbe on January 25, 2009, 09:38:27 PM
I have a S&W that I may refinish.  Through my web research I've seen many different coatings, including Duracoat, Gun Kote, etc., but the only coating I have any personal experience with is the black polycoat on my CZ85B.  How do these other coatings compare to the CZ polycoat? ???

I have a Taurus PT1911 that I've been waiting for the (thin) blue finish to wear so I could experiment with a DIY Duracoat finish in Matte Black, but so far, the Taurus refuses to wear enough to get started.

The AR15.com Refinishing Forum (http://www.ar15.com/forums/forum.html?b=6&f=19) is a good source of opinions on this topic. The closest to a consensus seems to be Norrels Moly Resin, http://www.johnnorrellarms.com/ with Duracoat a close second. I think the closest may be Brownell's new Teflon-Moly, as I've read it tends to be a bit thicker finish.

HTH!
