Title: New p-o7 duty
Post by: andy9mm on May 02, 2009, 06:03:51 PM
Hello, I am new to the CZ duty but found it to be amazing , almost as much as my Bersa 9mm Ultra Compact. I would really like to purchase this pistol but a little weary of it. The price was $479+ so I am holding off until someone can talk me into how great they are and having. Thanks and God bless!

Andy, welcome to the forums;

Buy it! Great gun, perfect for ccw; I"ve had mine a few weeks and it's a fun gun to shoot.

You won't regret it

Buy it.  I've had mine for awhile now and it has become my favorite pistol.  Light weight and easy to carry as well.   ;D

Hi. I'm in the same boat - narrowed down to two possibilities: CZ P07 Duty or Beretta PX Storm. I recently purchased a CZ 75 SP01 Phantom, and after getting used to DA first shot, I love it. (I'm a former and current Glock 30 carrier) The trigger was very smooth, right out of the box. I am looking for a companion weapon for the Phantom, for carry purposes, mainly. My concern is the double action trigger and transition; in dry fire, the Beretta was much smoother than the P07. Both guns fit me fine but I am partial to the P07 since the Phantom fits me to a tee.  I don't really have much problem carrying the Phantom, especially with the CZ 75 standard, flush fitting magazines but a little more compact is nice. Re the P07 Duty-Convince me guys!!

Thanks,
Rob

First question is, which one feels better in your hand?  Second question, doesn't that Beretta have their rotating barrel system?  I hear if they are not kept squeeky clean, they have all sorts of problems.  Not the sort of things I want on my mind when my life is hanging in the balance.  Just my .02, Dusty

Thanks Dusty for the tip on the rotating barrel-going to have to research that a bit. As for feel- both guns feel fine in the hand, albeit completely different from each other. Does the DA pull on your P07 smooth out a little with some with use? With the Phantom, I thought it felt gritty in dry fire (no real experience with DA, so for what tha's worth) but live fire was very smooth. How are your sights holding up?

Thanks,
Rob

My sights are holding up fine.  No issues to date with the P-07.  I liked the trigger on mine right out of the box.  I suppose, as with all pistols, it will get even smoother with use.   8)  regards, Dusty

 Seems like a lot of us began our gun search with a Berretta, as did I.  But, the size of the PX-4 is a little large for CCW.  Once I looked at the CZ P-01 compact, I was hooked ! You can't match it for size, balance, accuracy, and most of all,  price!

The rotary barrel system is no more prone to failures caused by dirt than anything other barrel system. The PX4  likes to run wet, so it should be kept properly lubed, like anything else, but there are no reliability concerns with the rotary barrel, and they certainly DON'T have to be kept "squeaky clean." The PX4 is a very reliable weapon, although it does have some issues in .40 S&W with trigger sting. I certainly would have no concerns regarding the PX4 when my life is hanging in the balance.

I've owned two PX4s and neither was kept "squeaky clean." In fact, I rarely cleaned them, generally firing a few hundred rounds between cleanings, and I never experienced a failure of any sort in several hundred rounds down range with either of them. I now own a P-07, which I bought because I like a frame mounted safety  more than the slide mounted safety. And while I like the P-07 better than the PX4, that's not due to any concerns about the Beretta's reliability.

As to the original question, I've sold my PX4 and bought a CZ P-07. I like the P-07's frame mounted ambidextrous safety/decocker and nitrided finish more than the Bruniton finish of the PX4. My CZ also has better fit/finish than either of my PX4s and I generally like the "feel" of the P-07 over the PX4, but of course, feel is a very subjective concept.

Although the P-07 is a new offering, given CZ's reputation for quality and reliability, I can't see any reason to be wary of the P-07. When I received mine Thursday, I was shocked at the fit and finish and the overall quality "feel" of the P-07. You could spend a LOT more on something else and get much less gun.

I agree with The Clever Set  %100 ......  the CZ's are hard to beat .....once you've had a cahnce to hold/shoot them.  I had a Berreta PX-4 on order,  but after some more "homework" I chose the CZ 75D compact over the Berretta.  Wonderful gun..........  ;)

Andy;
   I decided to go with the P07 and managed to wring it out with just over 100 rounds. I chose the P07 over the Beretta PX4 based on natural pointability (for me) and a preference for its profile in my hand. I'm real happy with the gun so far; not one malfunction, and accuraccy was excellent at five (one handed) to forty-five feet. I made a point to shoot DA first shot in order to get a feel for the transition and I was pleasantly surprised at the shot placement consistency. It has a pretty heavy DA pull and it's creaky but I could feel it smoothing out a bit even during my limited session. Decent enough that, with more practice, I won't notice it. SA is  easy but not silky-not enough to throw you off, though.
  Just as a comparison, I have a Walther P99 in 9mm that's been 100% reliable up to 3000 rounds but its ergonomics were just a shade off for comfort, in my hands. That's even with changeable backstraps. The P07 was very comfortable right off, and I felt like I could shoot it all day minus any annoyance. I have only felt that way about .45 ACP through my Glock.
   For carry, the P07 is balanced well and comes up on target very quickly. It's not quite as natural a pointer as the CZ Phantom, at least in my hands YET, but, hey, I've only had the P07 a day and it's way more comfortable to shoot a lot than the P99. (The point is, the P07 is comfortable enough and fun enough that I'll be shooting quite a bit through it). Muzzle flip is definitely there but easily controlled with firm wrists and the weapon pops right back down on target as if on rails.
Good gun, so far and I don't regret my choice at all. I'll check back with you after 3000 rounds. Hope it helps.
Rob

Just a note to folks that wonder about CZ's DA,  Dry firing these babies smooth them right out for an incredibly smooth DA.   Use them and they will be great.

Very true, but stock up on those snap caps - the green inserts wear out fast.
