Title: I got one on order
Post by: PTGT_Neon on June 10, 2009, 09:22:07 PM
I just placed an order for a CZ-83 in nickel finish chambered for a 9x18 makarov.  The store has absolutely no idea when it will come in.  Maybe 6 months or more? They really don't know.  All their suppliers are empty handed.

time to be patient ;)

Aside from the age and color, what is the difference between
a 83 in 9x18 and an 82? You can get the 82 all day long for
under $200.

Just curious. I think the 82 is one of the best deals in guns
right now. Not to mention mak ammo is $15 a box and .380
ammo is an arm and a leg if you are lucky enough to find
a box.

Age and color.  ;D  The nickel is really pretty.

I haven't spent any time looking for an 82 in Mak. I thought if I did find one I would probably spend a few hundred refinishing the thing. And that would mean a new one would be as much or less.

The availability of Mak ammo is important.  But I am also enamored by the design of the gun. I think it would also make a very nice CCW.

Nice little pistol to have.  They are very simple and inexpensive to own and maintain.

I'd like either one (or both) so much I can taste it.  Super weapon for what it was intended for.  Great design too.

I ordered a nickel one last week. It was a birthday present from my wife...she's a keeper huh? It came in the other day but I have to wait until my dealer has the chance to take it to a NY state police barracks to have it fired (NY has some screwy laws). Hopefully I'll have it in my paws in a day or so. I was able to pick up some 380 ammo for it last weekend (500 rounds) at a small store nearby.  I'm getting antsy...this will be my first gun!!!  BTW, I'm also getting a CZ75B stainless (limited edition).

Friggin Awesome!  She's surely a keeper!  And good job finding .380!  What is this NY law about firing it in police barracks?

The CZ-83/82 is really comfortable and easy to shoot.  The barrel is very low which helps reduce muzzle flip significantly.  I'd say it helps more than the compensator on my Phantom.  I suggest getting the wolf recoil spring pack.  try shooting with the 18 lb spring.  I expect that the heavier spring won't bite the web of my hand so much.

My order never panned out.  I ended up buying a used 82 chambered in 9x18 mak in decent shape.  I'm getting it refinished to look like the nickel 83 at CCR.  I had a hard time deciding between CCR and Mac's shooting irons.  Both came highly recommended from other members on the forum.  I recently found out that I'll have to wait 6-8 weeks to get the gun back from CCR.  :-(

New gun purchases must have spent shells sent to the state police ( I guess they figure they can trace shootings from a crime scene or something. I hear that it is really a waste of time and money -- but it's NY. What do you expect?). Many guns are shipped to NY dealers with those spent shells, mine weren't. It wasn't that big a deal as the guy I bought them from works as a deputy for the county. He brought my guns to a nearby barracks while on duty and I received them today. I'm hoping to do some shooting tomorrow.  All is well in the world right now.

I have to say, ...my CZ-82 in 9x18 Mak is perhaps the finest smaller firearm I've ever owned. And I've owned more than a few.  I have the Bersa Thunder in .380 and it is also a fine weapon.  There is something about the CZ though that is ergonomically a much better feel in my hands.

I went to Academy on Saturday and would you believe it?? At 2 in the afternoon, the shelves were stocked with .380 at $16 a box.  The 9x18 Mak shelf was crammed with ammo for $9.95 per box.  Needless to say, I stocked up.

Happy shooting...................

I got my CZ-82 back from CCR.  The finish is great!  Here are some pics.  I switched out the grips and trigger guard in the second pic.

I just put 100 rounds through it.  The trigger is super duper smooth!  It's smoother in SA than my Phantom (I did a trigger job on the phantom too).  I sanded and polished all the parts in the trigger before getting it refinished.

The coating is nice.  The slide was just a little warm to the touch after shooting 100 rounds.  It wasn't uncomfortably hot.

There was one FTF so I need to figure that out when I clean it.  I was using hollowpoints so I don't know if that has anything to do with it.

It shoots a bit high.  It's very precise though.  I can get small groups on target if I compensate and aim low a little bit.

I'll have to put some blue loctite on the grip screws because they kept working loose.

Also, the 18 lb wolf recoil spring helped reduce the recoil bite in the web of my hand.

The trigger guard pin under the barrel sheared or broke at the left side.  The remainder of the pin still in the frame is bent.  What gives?  Why would that break?

I'll order a few replacements.

I figured it out.  the slide bangs the stop on the trigger guard which pushes on the pin.  I can fix it by removing metal that contacts the pin.
