I thought it would be kinda neat to see everyone's Pre B CZ-75's.........compare and give comments........So post yer pics!

Hello. Well, here's a Pre-B that Kurt Wickman installed Novak sights on. It's been refinished and the hammer bobbed as well. The bbl's been hardchromed.
Best.
-
These Pre-B's are graceful and elegant, aren't they?
Best.
-
Hey.....Ya'lls pictures are wiggin out. ~_^
Yes they are very graceful and elegant.......But still......I'd give anything to have one that was made in 1975, you know, the one with the short guide rails. Those were the best made CZ 75's ever, I heard that they were made with a harder grade of steel.
Hey though!......At least we know who are really in the CZ classic club huh? LOL
-
Hello. Sorry. I've had that happen here on occassion.
Best.
PS: Maybe they'll come back up later.
-
Quote:
I'd give anything to have one that was made in 1975
To the best of my knowledge, the first CZ 75s were made in 1976. The number refers to the year when the design was completed, not the first production year. There are also no 1985 model year CZ 85s or 1997 model year 97Bs, as far as I know. With the other pistols that follow this nomenclature, the year of introduction and first year of production seem to be identical. Of course, I have been known to make mistakes...
If someone could tell me how to post a picture, I will try to get my CZ 75 "transitional" posted.

One more try...

PS: Didn't work! Oh, well. It works elsewhere. Sorry.
-
Stephen,
I can see it!
-
Hello. Good. Just shows up as a red "X" for me.
Best.
-
No I really seen a picture of one that was made in 1975........Said it right there on the gun. Behind the extractor.
I think they started production in late '75.........Maybe it was a proto?
Seeing as how very few would have been made I figure there are very few left.
I'll try to find out the exact date.
-
How the heck do you post images?

Hey bob!

Artemis,
Is your Type A one of the Frankonia semi-customs? It looks like the descriptions that I have read of some of those pistols.
-
Not to my knowing.......My little Z baby's just bone stock as far as I can tell.
I've not read up much about the Frankonia semi-customs.
Could you tell me a little about them?
It could be for all's I know.......But I see nothing stamped or rolled on the gun that would suggest "Custom" work.
Thanks FEG.
-
I don't know much about them, except that Frankonia is a German (West German) firm that marketed Ceska Zbrojovka pistols in Europe with a few extra features and custom finishes. Some features that I recall were adjustable sights, chrome finish, etc. In the picture above, your slide looks hard-chromed. Is that a trick of the light? Also, the grip panels on that pistol are not an OEM style that I have seen before. In fact, they look a lot like the style that I associate with FEG pistols from the late '80s/early '90s.
-
Your eye's don't lie. ^_^
Yeah it's a satin nickel finish.
And the grips?....They came on the pistol......I'm pretty sure they are walnut......Could be some other wood.....I have yet to do the taste test. ~_^
Did that custom shop mark the guns they worked on in anyway?
-
Nobody seems to know, but the consensus is that Frankonia didn't. If you look in your manual, you will see that your finish isn't listed as an OEM option. I can't be sure it's a Frankonia, but it looks like the description of one in A.E. Hartink's Encyclopedia of Pistols and Revolvers.
-
Holy crap......I just looked in my manual and your right...It's not listed. Never noticed that before.
Suprize suprize.......I'm gonna contact CZ-Usa tomorrow and assualt them with a flury of questions.
Many about the Satin nickel finish.
If my gun IS an 'F' semi-custom job..........Is that good?
O_O;;
-
Quote:

I would pay more for a Frankonia than a Plain Jane, since they originally cost quite a bit more. CZ-USA may or may not be able to help you. The staff are all Americans, and these pistols were never imported here through normal channels, certainly not by CZ-USA. I believe that servicemen stationed in West Germany brought some back, but that's about it.
-
Yeah the pistol has no import marks on it anywhere.
I got it NIB when I did too.
And it was no joke......The thing was brand spanking new in presentation case and all.
I guess I got a steal huh?
-
CZ75ID has a pic of my pre-B that he posted here for more before. Maybe he'll put it up again. I don't have any web space anywhere or any way to post pics.

Artemis,
I posted a long description of Frankonia custom CZ75 pistols in this link

Thanks to a forum member, who provided me with a host for this purpose, here's a picture of my pre-B.

home.attbi.com/~erik.marques/cz-75walt.jpg (http://home.attbi.com/~erik.marques/cz-75walt.jpg)
I got it last year in a trade at a local gunshop for a WWII (Manurhin) P-38. The P-38 was gorgeous, but wouldn't shoot for crap.
This gun was really rough -- the polycoat badly banged, with a lot of deep scratches in the frame around the front. I've since replaced the factory grips (one of which is a little warped) with the soft rubber factory grips. I much prefer them (and no, the original grips are not for sale.)
I stripped it (with automotive paint remover) and reblued it using mostly Ox-Pho Blue from Brownells (mixed with some other cold blues.) I buffed it with a fine wire wheel before rebluing. I've got some new cold blue -- BLUE WONDER -- to try on my next project. This looks pretty good, though, and it has held up well.
Wny would I trade for something so obviously abused? This gun has the best DA and SA trigger I've ever found in a SA/DA gun. The SA is as crisp as a custom 1911, and the DA is smooth and quick.
I'm still having problems from time to time with flyers -- but am beginning to think its ME, not the gun.

Sweet Z's everyone.
Hey Ted........I checked out yer post and It had alot of good info on "F" customs.
It seems that lot of them had Satin nickel finished frames.
I guess I'm still in the dark about mine........All's I know is that I love it so far.......and it is the most accurate 9mm I have (Or have ever shot for that matter).
So I'm pleased. ^_^
-
Anybody else notice the difference in the shape of the trigger guard between Parabellum's CZ and mine? Mine is somewhat more Oval-like (but oriented diagonally...)
-
I noticed that.
The oval trigger guards are seen more often on early Pre-B's.
But thats weird.......Was yours made in '91......or just imported in '91?
-
Mine was made in '85 and has the lined/striped (as opposed to checkered) grips.
-
Not only is the shape different, but the triggerguard on mine looks thicker as well, at least at the edges.
It would be interesting to line up examples of A-types, one from each year, to see the differences.
Another difference between Walt's and mine, not readily discernable in the photos, is the hammer.
Wasn't it around 1988 or '89 when they went to the thinner hammer and heavier firing pin?
-
Personally, I couldn't say. The books make it sound like those changes occurred when the CZ 85 was released. The CZ 75 was made to conform to some improvements introduced on the CZ 85.
I am still assuming that CZ 85s weren't produced until 1986, but I was wrong about the CZ 75 being released in 1976. My info came from Military Small Arms of the World. I think that it is still very likely that 1986 is correct. They wouldn't have called it the CZ 86 anyway; it just doesn't have the same ring to it!

Hope you like!

Sweet 9091..........What a jewl!
I'll post more pics of mine as soon as I get my Digi cam working.

I have a pic of my customized and Hard Chromed Pre-B. I don't have any way to post it, but if someone would be willing to host it I could e mail it to you.
I had some teething problems with the gun at first, but it worked out to be my favorite shooter. Reliable and accurate.

Here's my baby... It's a 1981 make, with beautiful engraving on both the metal and grips. A dazzler to look at, a joy to fire... I somehow managed to find this masterpiece NIB last year...just dont ask how much I paid !!!
Enjoy

Very very nice Owl!
She's a fine looking pistol.
Chalk one up for the Pre-B's! ^_^

My very first gun purchase was this pre-B CZ75. Made in 86. Serial #: 153XXX. Its a dream to shoot!

I got this NIB pre-B CZ 75 at the Florida Suncoast Gun Show today.
It came with two 15 round mags. The slide says it was made in 91. This is my second CZ 75 (both pre-B models). I think I may have a serious CZ problem now!
Every time I see one, I want to take it home!

Indead, CZ's are certainly addictive. I've got 4 now, three of which are type-a (pre B). Actually, the way it has worked out, I have one for every decade they have been built.
I'm wondering about that '70s CZ75 a couple poses back. It almost looks like the sucker was chromed. What a beauty.
I've satisfied me CZ75 habbit, unless a transitional comes up. Gotta go find something else now. Maybe a P-01 or something.
I'll take the pictures and stick them up, if I can find my digital camera.

Still a project in progress but still looks good. I am waiting on a safety lever that I can mill off the head and place in gun and make a filler piece for the rest of the recess. After that a new mainspring (lighter). Might do some recrowning of the muzzle, have to see the accuracy when I head to the range.

Actually They cracked big time thats why the frame rails were made longer.
CZ's have been very popular here for years and lots of people had slides cracking just forward of the frame rails you will see there is a nice sharp edge there.
In fact my slide cracked just under the extractor (89 year)

Refinished in Manganese phosphate, the barrel is sorta shot out. I might have to go for a Bar-Sto. But, I still have to find the time (and place) to pop a few rounds downrange first.
Have Fun.

*sigh*
Of the handful of firearms I have sold or traded off, my only real regret was trading my pre-B CZ-75 (I did get a nice S&W 41 for it, though). When I traded it, I still had the original box, manual, and 6 magazines (when they were very hard to find).
-
Picked this one up today, at the Winston-Salem gun show, for a very good price. Came with an after-market box (which I let them keep, as part of the haggling) and one 15-round factory mag.
Bauska import. Very nice trigger. Couple of nicks in the enamel (nt polycoat). Otherwise, seems fresh from the factory; it appears to be UNFIRED. Dated 1985.
I may offer this one for sale on the forum soon. I didn't really want or need a another pre-B, but it was too nice a gun to pass up. (Somebody make me an offer or suggest a trade!)
(I also saw a NIB pre-B for $499, with all papers, factory box, etc. Its the same gun they wanted $450 for at the last show. I was tempted then, but not today.)
-
Nice find Walt. I'd think about an offer but I have two already.
Do you mind if I ask you how much you paid for it?
-
I paid slightly less than $400 -- and think its worth $450 - $475 or more.
It is pristine.
The only negative is that it has the older "enamel" finish, and not polycoat. The old enamel finish chips more easily than polycoat. There were tiny 4-5 chips or nicks in the finish (from handling, it appears) which I've repaired.
I came with a single 15 round mag, and I'll probably throw in another.
It has a very nice trigger -- nicer than my original pre-B, which suprised me. Its a shame the newest CZ-75Bs aren't this nice.
I think it could use a slightly lighter hammer spring, however.
I haven't fired it, and won't -- as I don't think its been fired since it left the factory.
(Several folks have raved about the old grips... I think they're unglier than cow flop.)
-
Walt, did you get my email?
I'm seriously interested in the CZ-75 you just picked up.
It looks and sounds like a good example of a pre-B.
-
No, I didn't get your email.

I thought I had posted here but guess I was wrong.
Below are 2 pics of my pre B. Bauska import from '85.

Interesting serrations on the slide. If I've seen those before I haven't noticed. What year is stamped on the extracter?

-
My Pre-B looks a little like a lot of the pistols here! The slide looks like Parabellum's on Page 2, w/the A.A.L. import mark on the left side, w/the Model 75 rollmark, and the same grips and slide release as well as safety. Differences, though, are a squared triggerguard and a round hammer.
I picked it up from a dealer in UT who's got a bunch that he bought around '94 and still hasn't sold them all. They were a great deal, pre-B or not.
Nice guns, I'm a convert in a big way.
-
This one is a 1985 with box, engineering/warranty card, target and both mags all serial numbered. Original orange owner's manual, wax paper cover, and bore brush. Pistol was purchased in Germany by a U.S. Apache helicopter pilot. No import markings. Has been fired but not much. Only thing left out of the picture is the plastic bag the pistol was wrapped in which I have. This pic should be complete as to how they were sold.

This one is a 1987 pistol and belongs to my grandson. Walnut grips were added, the original grips are the black plastic checkered type with CZ logo. Since my 1985 has the old style grips and this one has the new style they must have changed in either 1986 or 1987. Mag is serial numbered, painted finish. No import markings, assumed to have been purchased in Germany by a GI.

The asiparks1 pistol made in 1994 is interesting. Model marking on the slide changed to "CZ-75" with the "UB" logo, flat-cut, angled slide serrations, round-top slide, but it still has the rounded trigger guard.
I had some 1994 pistols that went to my nephews and one had the "CZ-75" marking and two had the "Model 75" marking. Interestingly they all had the squared trigger guard.
I guess 1994 was the year the trigger guard went square and the "Model 75" was dropped. I believe that was also the year the CZ logo went to UB. Perhaps someone else can chime in on that.
-
Like you '85 very much. Never noticed the "CZ 75" Vs "model 75" before. Don't know if its the white paint, but the slide inscriptions look very sharp. Is it an enamel or blued finish ?
-
The 1985 is blued. It was originally the painted finish and had quite a few scratches so I had it blued by John DeCorcy in Tucson, AZ. He stripped the old finish with an epoxy remover and hand finished and polished the parts. No hard machine buffing or anything that would round the edges or disturb the lettering. I had him matte the top and rear of the slide.
-
Hello, I am new to CZF. I have posted in the Cz85 Combat forum because of the unusual rear sight. Any way I have just had my Cz85 pre B refinished by Trip research. I am not endorsing them, I just did a search on the web and found them, gave them a call and shipped them my gun.
www.trippresearch.com/index.htm (http://www.trippresearch.com/index.htm)
I took these pictures of the gun after firing 30 rounds through it.
pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/cb...pg&.src=ph (http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/cbjmoses/detail?.dir=f861&.dnm=c87bscd.jpg&.src=ph)
Both the Cz85 and Cz85 Combat I purchased new in 1993. The Cz75 Compact in 2002 and the Springfield Armory P9s in 1991. All new when I purchased them. I have always had a fetish for the Cz design.
-
I recently shot a CZ75B and now I have to have one! I looked at a preB 85 at a little gun shop . It looked to have been shot very little, the only wear marks were on the sights(which were to small for my eyes to pick up well) it had two little spots where the finish was chiped. The trigger was great. The gun was dated 87. My main concerne was that I could'nt shoot with those sights. Are they changeable? I could get it for about $350 with one extra mag but the KID behind the counter didn't know if it came with a box or manuals. I do like the looks of the round trigger guard much better. I have read on this forum about the 75 slides cracking, is that common? does it also happen with the 85? If so, I may try to find a Retro. How are they marked? Does it say retro on the slide? Thanks guys, Dennis
-
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v200/falcopilot/cz75X640_2.jpg)
I bought this in 1987 as a second CZ to the one I'd set up for IPSC. I rebarrelled it with a Peters Stahl polygonal bore barrel, which were available from Springfield at the time. I switched out the front sight to correct the POI after rebarreling. I tuned the trigger to a nice, crisp 3.25 pounds, and removed all extra creep. I checkered the front and backstrap, and made the grips from a piece of tigerwood bought from a knife maker. Over the years I've probably put 20,000+ rounds through the pistol, and it still holds tighter groups than I'm capable of shooting.
This is the second of 5 CZs I've owned over the years. I still have it, along with a 75B in .40 S&W, and my newest 2075 RAMI, also in .40 S&W.

If you read it here, it was a one-of-a-kind type of message. I don't remember of EVER hearing/reading that. (One user had a problem with the frame around the slide stop, and that was an 85...)
If it is a problem (and not a fluke on a gun or two) it is a VERY RARE problem.
The CZ75 and the CZ85 are the same gun except for the addition of ambi controls on the 85.

Hello.

Never posted here before, but I just picked up a 1984 CZ75 this evening. No import marks to be found on it. Serial is 109xxx. Pics are poor quality, I will attempt to get better ones tomorrow when I don't have to use the flash.
The finish is well-worn, but the barrel is bright and the rifling is sharp. For $260 with two magazines and the Hogue grips, I think I did very well.
I was looking for a nice 9mm to fire at the range so I can retire my family heirloom Walther AC41 P38, this fits the bill perfectly. As for CZ's my only other is a CZ52, dated 1954, I'll see about posting it in the respective forum.

Hullo Walt-Folks- Well Pards, Fin'ly got some pictures of the 1981 Blued 75 into Photo-bucket. Question is....HOW to get 'em on this site ?-I'm kinda a Caveman w/ comupters, & such. I put some photos on a website once, but seem to have forgotten how...Last time I got both screens on the same page ( sender & reciever). Can't seem to do that now. Any ideas??? Thank you,Sir- MM

Hello. Here are some pictures of Mitch's Pre-B. I think he has fine looking shooter here:

NICE ONE, Matt; Is it an '81? Looks like mine & Steve's with the small lettering. Steve was kind enuff to post mine on this thread, I tried- but he succeeded. In my opinion these guns deserve nicer grips, I love those Hakan's. Just left mine original- for now- but might get some white ash or walnuts to kick it up a notch.
-
Mitch's CZ is beautiful - is that original factory blue?
-
I'll give it a try.
This is my Pre-B. This is a great shooting weapon. Bought it used - not really very familiar with CZ's at all at the time, my first semi-auto.
She needs a little work on the bluing and at one point I attempted adjustable sights but never could find a good fit. It came with a ten round magazine (from back in those days) but I bought the 16 round as soon as available.
I truly like this pistol alot, plastic grips and all! I point it I fire it, it hits. Had a round jam in the magazine when I first got it but a little light lubrication made everything right. Have NEVER had a jam since. I don't count rounds but I've put a great many through it. Probably my favorite weapon since my Dad's Sako .30-06 when I was a little guy.
-
krhomeplace, I believe you have a more current Retro model, which is similar in appearance to a Pre-B model, but has the later 75B internal design. Still a great gun, but my Retro needed a serious trigger job to be a proper contender against the smoother pre-B actions. Just thought you ought to know. The "Made in Czech Republic" on the slide is the easy givaway...the older ones have "Made in Czechoslovakia". Greg
-
MatQuig, I appreciate your comments as I am always hoping for more data on this weapon. At one point I wrote CZ-USA asking for specs on the rear sight dovetail, using the serial number and external stamps as a reference, but I never heard back from them. It was during that search that I first found this forum.
Any other history that could be provided would be most welcome. Though it would appear that I am posting my pics in the wrong forum (or at least on the wrong thread), I will add a couple more in case Greg or anyone else can tell me more about my 9mm.
BTW, never had a bit of problem with the trigger but as stated earlier, I bought it used. - Clint

Clint, as you can see in the picture, you have CZ-USA, Kansas on the right side, so it is a recent gun. The Retro model was a limited RSR (gun distributor with several locations in the US) offered CZ, and was brought out in 2003, with many of the guns built and dated in 2004. Your date stamp code is just to the rear of the ejection port on the slide, in the little oval. I can't make out your date in the photo, but you can take a closer look. The polymer type coating is really tough, and not harmed by any cleaning solvents I have used so far. I am not particularly fond of the friction this type of coating causes when used in a tight leather holster, but mine hasn't worn off yet, so it is definitely protecting the gun well. My gun shoots like a dream. I just wish it has been offered in the old world bright blue that is on my first model short rail C775....I bought the Retro to preserve the original from too much firing....I'd just hate to drop it or crack the frame by excessive firing and use. I am beginning to wonder just how rare the Retro's are now. I thought they would become a standard offering, but they might be even more rare than the early short rails (although most of those were sold in the European market, and few made it into the the US). I think there were only a thousand or so Retro models made. Anyone with info on that? Greg

OK - how do I make it appear IN the frame? Many of the FAQs are gone - like - "How to post photos"...

Hi, I am new here and this is my first post. I have been a fan of this pistol since I obtained mine in Dec.'89. Mine was one of approximately 2000 that were imported in the mid eighties before Uncle Sam put a stop to it. Of course, this was before the end of the cold war. My example is a Bauska import and has the fragile black enamel finish. It is still a wonderful shooter with the best out of the box trigger pull of any semiauto pistol that I have ever fired. The grips are the earlier pattern, which I personally like better that the latter ones. Anyway, I will try and post a pic. The year of manufacture on mine is 1985.

i stripped off the enamel because it looked like a camoflauged zebra.
i think someone dropped it while rock climbing.
tried cold bluing, but i'm bad at it.
i had re-polished it again, will take pics again.

Here's a picture of my "beater" pre-B. It is parkerized. Made in 1989 and has no import marks. It is in pretty good shape. I really like this pistol because it will feed anything. Even some of my most funky reloads. It is also very accurate. Plus, I got it for a song off GunBroker.
Best regards.

This is a 1977 CZ 75. It came with box, papers and extra magazine & I added Hakan's grips
Isn't this one of the pre-import versions that was made with higher grade steel before the CZ 75 went to mass market across the world?
The rumor is CZ had to downgrade steel quality to get more life out of the manufacturing machinery, or so I have heard....

Here is my baby.
Born in 1986, but not shot very often. It was a duty pistol from a security company here in germany and just laid in the vault for several years.
Just the finish looks beaten, due to the holsters they used.

Here's my '78. I'm looking for original style grips. I'd also like to restore the original blued finish some day.

My grandfather came to the US from the Czech Republic, so I thought it would be cool to own one of these in his memory. I asked for one of these as a birthday present. The family pitched in and produced. It's a beauty! Great shape. The last owner only took it shooting once. My girlfriend (who never shot a handgun before) put 9 out of 16 rounds dead center at approx 25 yards. I didn't do so bad myself, 14 for 16. This gun is outstanding. The trigger action is phenominal. I want wood handles for it, but I'm not in a hurry. Maybe a dumb question, but how can I find out what year this was manufactured?

I grabbed this 1977 off of Gunbroker last week. Used buy-it-now for $750. She's all original and only been fired a few times. The finish is perfect. I am the third owner. Came with the original box and 2 mags inscribed with the last 3 digits of the serial number on them. I'm assuming they are also original. No manual with it though.

Here's my '86 Pre B. Blued finish, worn around the grip. I have completely resprung it, and replaced the extractor and mag brake. It's been 100% reliable. I have a bunch of different grips for it, but these are my favourites. I shaped and sanded the CZ cocobolo grips, and finished them with 3 in 1 oil. A little grip tape front and back and it's good to go. I polished the hammer to match the trigger and barrel and have the stainless grip screws for a little extra bling. One day, I want to have some tritium sights dovetailed in and have it refinished in matte.
-
This is my pre B. Stamped 85 as the date of manufacture, and obviously worked on by someone. It Shoots well (wish I could), and after changing the springs in the mags to wolf +10s because it didn't feed some of my hotter reloads in one of my post b mags it feeds anything I load for it. I would like to redo the sights and eventually will have to re-barrel it, cause I like to shoot it ALOT! Perfect its not, but it hits what I point it at and like any good tool it has become an extension of my hand.

You got quite a deal on yours, my friend just sold his first model with a very worn finish on Gun Broker for $1,200 "Buy it now" (Auction link, while it lasts (http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=132311240)). And you have the box (and no manual).

Look for the number in the oval by the ejection port.
-
Here's mine.
Got in in a private sale in MA, making this one of the only 2 pre-B MA-compliant CZ-75s I've ever seen.
Gun came exactly as you see it, with two magazines that have the last digits of the serial number electropencilled in. Note the added frontstrap checking, and the bobbed hammer. I believe its dated 1984.
Is this one of those famous Frankonia guns I've heard about? Any comments are appreciated.
It is one SWEET shooter. Smooth DA, and SA pull is maybe 4 lbs even. 2000+ rounds through it by me with not one malfunction of any kind. . .and no, I'm NEVER selling it.
Also, anyone know if the Kadet .22LR conversion will fit on this thing?

That is a very interesting CZ. I'm most interested in the odd-shaped trigger guard. Looks like a Tangfolio.
From what I've read, the Kadet kit will most likely not work on this pistol. Someone can come along and correct me.
Awesome pistol. I've never seen one like that. Thanks for sharing.
-
Also, anyone know if the Kadet .22LR conversion will fit on this thing?
I've a '88 CZ75 and recently bought a conversion and it fitted without minor adjustments(you have to do this on all conversions). Shoots like a dream.

Here is my 1991 CZ85.
I got it for $350.00 three years ago. It came in original box with all accessaries including a owners manual in a foreign language. Seven 15 round mags.
The story is this guy bought it new for $385.00 while in the Army in Germany. It has about 500 rounds through it.

I actually have Reply #2 on: February 21, 2003, 05:21:17 PM ? in this thread from years ago.. But the pic links are dead,, and i can no longer edit the post.. So figure I'd just put up some new ones.
This Frankonia custom was purchased in 1985 from a US Army Post Exchange sports center by me as a young soldier.
The model name as advertised was "CZ75 Combat Competition Special" I later found out this was not a CZ customized gun, but an aftermarket job from Frankonia.
Known changes to this gun from an off the shelf version are;
Finish
Extended magazine release
More pronounced slide release
Trigger over travel stop
Trigger / action job
Adjustable rear sight
I've had this gun since new, it's been with me during my service before side arms were issued to any one that wanted one in the Army.
It?s been a carry weapon for many years now?.more than 60,000 recorded factory load rounds have been though this gun and never a malfunction of any type. I can still put holes exactly where I want them to go and as it always has,, it shoots better than I do.

Took this old girl (born in 81) out today. She has been sitting in the locker for awhile, don't know why I mistreated her like that as she sure is slick.
-
Sold my BD to a friend to nab this pre-B off of Gunbroker. It wasn't quite where I wanted it, but was the only one I could find at the time. Here's the, "before," shot.
And here it is after some gunsmithing and sending it to Springer Precision to get refinished via Ion bond. Aside from the obvious changes, it was also made to fit current style mags like those from Mec-Gar and drop free on mag release. It has been a solid performer in accuracy and reliability. It has even acted as a carry piece until I got my Pro-Tek 1. Btw, mfg date on the slide says, "80."
-
Very, very nice Hockler. I may have to look into Ion Bond.
-
(http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n167/HocklerMP5/IM000687.jpg)
That is really slick! I'm really curious about the roll marks. They almost look like they're surface markings, painted or something. The roll marks on my '78 are worn really bad from a bad bead blasting by the previous owner. I've been trying to think of a way to restore them but no-one seems to be able to do it. :(
Thanks for sharing those pics. She turned out great.
-
Took another picture due to the interest, plus my phone camera captures the finish better using natural lighting.
About the roll marks, I just ran a white crayon over it to see what it would look like. I thought it would be easy to remove, but it is quite stubborn, so I figured I'd leave it alone as it's grown on me. :D
(http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n167/HocklerMP5/IMG_0536.jpg)
Note that in the time between my old pic and new one, I somehow knicked my grips. Doh. It's also interesting to note that to fit Mec-Gar mags so that they too would drop free, I had to file down the insides of them.
-
Hockler,
You had to file down the insides of them to make the Mec-Gars fit. Are you referring to the magazine well? My pre B mags are rounded on the front whilst the later B mags are more square and will not seat in the pre B. The pre B mags will function reliably in the Bs.
I think the white lettering looks kind of nice.
-
Sorry, should have been more clear on that area. A gunsmith filed down the insides of the weapon to fit Mec-Gars prior to the Ion Bond refinish. It then took filing the inside of the stocks to make the Mec-Gars drop free on mag release. What's cool with the end result is that the Mec-Gars have a slightly tighter fit and the weapon will not rattle at all with it loaded.
-
Finally! Nearly gave up on finding one... ;D

Oh yeah, and more pics too if you have them. ;D

Nabbed this '79 from forum member bobofthedesert as he sold his '78; it was a bit more than what that one sold for. He might know a bit more about its history, but I discovered a sticker on the inside of the grips with a German address. It must have been the first owners' before it made its way State side. Think I'll keep it there to add to the mysticism. ;D
The rear sights, if I remember correctly, are factory, but it also came with the standard fixed. Kinda stoked since I have a '79 and an '80 back to back which is from what I understand, final production year of the A model then the starting year of the long-rails. It came with one mag and a box too. Luckily, I happened to already have three other pre-B mags that fit and function.
Anyhow, I already thanked bobofthedesert, but I'll do it again since it must have been hard to decide to part with such a fine specimen. ;)

She was purchased in Aug of 89 at the Rod and Gun Club on base in Darmstadt West Germany. Here she is with the other grips I purchased at the same time...
The cleaning rod and the brush are both original to the gun. The magazines are both inscribed with the last 3 numbers of the gun's serial number. It seems she was born in '88 however....
When I returned to the states, I sold it to my brother. He got in some trouble and I bought it back from him. Sold it to a friend of mine, but got to missing it so that I bought a Ruger 9mm from a guy so I could trade to get it back. If memory serves me, She cost me about $150 new. Still got the ATF paperwork somewhere where I imported it when I PCS'd back to the states.
She was the first sidearm I ever purchased....the day after I turned 21.

OK
Heres mine - just got it like you see it, so dont be hatin like some of u already. I didnt do the custom stuff. It came like it. I got it for next to nothing.
Its a 1979 model all matching ser. no. 19xxx
It would be great if anyone has info on this type CZ. Was it some commemorative edition ? or am I being too optimistic ?
The grips are cocobolo wood, stainless slide, blued frame and gold bling on the hammer, safety and slide lever.
Raised Target sights.
Thanxs in advance.
-
If anyone has a line on a 1970's era pre-B, please let me know. I want one of those short rails and would prefer it with original box, etc. On the other hand, if it's trashed that would be ok and I'll restore it! :)
Just PM me with details...I'm serious and I've got the $$

this is my beauty..... on purchasing the firearm, and i know this is a forbidden test, i loaded 5 mags extra excluding the one in the gun...... and i just let all hell break loose on the range...... :-[
and after emptying the first mag i dropped locked and loaded the next and just let rip again..... it caught quite a bit of attention on the range which wasn't my intent but merely to make sure that, what i was purchasing would not fail me when needed the most...... and may i add that this in one piece i'm very proud to own as it handled the punishment with ease.... :-[
My wife also found it to be quite a comfortable firearm as well and she even added that she felt more comfortable with the CZ than with the PT92 compact.
And yes i had to agree :(

You'll laugh when I tell you this - I was bored and ran over the roll marks one day with a white crayon! :D
Surprisingly, it's stuck quite well. Thinking I'll need a good sharp needle and maybe some heat to melt the wax if I want it gone.
Also, the finish is Ion Bond, which gives it that very sleek black.

-
It is dated '85. I found it in a gun shop in 1991, it looked unfired to me. Not sure about the finish, maybe something Frankonia did.
-
If you want to re-dot the safety indicator, a drop of model paint should do the trick. After I had mine Ion-Bonded, I borrowed some from a friend and it worked great.

CZU,

That is what I plan on doing, have an early 80's PPK/s that needs the same treatment.
Thanks

As far as I could find out it's one of the first run.
The first 1000 where guns who has been tested and modified.
Date on test target say's july 5th 1975
The gun came from a shop what went broke.
The guy who took the inventory found several cz's on a forgotten shelf.
A CZ70,75,85,97 and 2 83's one in .32acp (first run 1983 number 638, got that one too)an one in .380.
85 and 97 where taken already.

The year should be found on the slide just behind the ejection port. I have got to say that this looks like the rarest find I have seen yet. According to "CZ 75: The Birth of a Legend" there were only 54 pistols made in 1975. In 1976 only 18 were made and the first full production year was 1977 which produced only 2000. Mine is a 1977 and my serial is 111**
***Edit***
I'm thinking this must be a 1975 model. I found a photo someone posted to flickr of a 1975 production pistol. I guess they made a trip to the factory/museum. Anyway, here's a link to the photo: http://www.flickr.com/photos/guns-for-sale/6156510454/in/photostream/ (http://www.flickr.com/photos/guns-for-sale/6156510454/in/photostream/)

Oh man. It belongs in a museum! :o But if you are serious about possibly selling it, there is a member here named "Otto N Sure" that has been looking for one. You might try to PM him.
BTW, to the mods, sorry if we're hijacking this thread. I admit I got a little excited when I saw this one. ;)
@ roinjo, you really should start a thread in the CZ 75 Classic forum on this pistol so we can further discuss it. ;D
Here's another photo of my '77 to further contribute to this thread. (Serial photoshopped out)

Hello from Argentina to everybody there! I'm new here and It's a pleasure to be part of this forum.
I'd like to begin by presenting my first CZ 75 from 1991 (well preserved) that I bought on 11/21. Today, I tested it with a 100 rounds of Magtech FMJ, 124 grains. I had only one failure to feed, don't know if it was a mag or ammo issue, but after that no problems. The barrel is in very good condition, as it's accuracy and grouping performance. It came with Rubber Hogue Grips, which are excellent, but as the tittle of the Club says, it doesn't go with the pistol; too bad it didn't came with the original grips (I'm looking for them)
(http://s8.postimage.org/ywghw0jm9/Right.jpg) (http://postimage.org/image/ywghw0jm9/)
(http://s8.postimage.org/itd7nowup/Left.jpg) (http://postimage.org/image/itd7nowup/)
(http://s9.postimage.org/h0i44qbmj/PC020012.jpg) (http://postimage.org/image/h0i44qbmj/)
As you can see, the dots must be re-painted again.
(http://s8.postimage.org/7r84p92s1/Alza.jpg) (http://postimage.org/image/7r84p92s1/)
(http://s12.postimage.org/wcdvo6n0p/Guion.jpg) (http://postimage.org/image/wcdvo6n0p/)
Now before going to the range, I had to do some little work with one of the magazines. It feeds perfectly, but the slide would lock back like when you ran out of ammo, when actually there was one more round left ready to go into the chamber; only thing to do is to rack the slide. It's because the slide stop is from the older version and the follower of the magazine is from the current version of the pistol. It seems that the face or nail (don't know how to say it in english) of the old slide stop that connects with the magazine follower is longer than the current one, and even when I had one left, it was still touching the portion of the follower in order to make the slide to stay back when the mag is empty. So I used a file to get ride of that portion that was causing problems, and now it's working just fine. I could change the slide stop so I don't have to do this, but the current one is not meant for this classic design, I prefer the old one here (besides, it's not a big deal)
Best Regards
Joseph

Hello Joseph and welcome to the forum. That is a beautiful pre-b. I love that blued finish! Thanks for sharing.
It came with Rubber Hogue Grips, which are excellent, but as the tittle of the Club says, it doesn't go with the pistol; too bad it didn't came with the original grips (I'm looking for them)
You can get nice reproduction waffle grips here:http://vintagegungrips.net/ao-c62a.html (http://vintagegungrips.net/ao-c62a.html)
As you can see, the dots must be re-painted again.
I'm thinking someone else might have added the sight paint. I don't know if the later model pre-b pistols had dots and a painted ramp or not. I know my earlier model pistols do not have any paint on them at all. If you want to repaint them most people have had some luck with plain old Testors white model paint. Or you could buy some real sight paint from the internet.
-
Thank very much for the Welcome vidiot.
I can't tell how helpful you were for that link you gave me. Are these grips of good quality just like the originals?
About the sights, I guess I'm pretty lucky to have found this CZ 75 in particular. Since it is the first time I will do this (re-painting sights), do you think this paint is good enough? http://siteglo.com/ (http://siteglo.com/)
Best Regards

I had sent mine in for them to make their mold. Here's some pics comparing the original grip with the reproductions The original is on the left and the repro on the right. The first batch they made seemed to be a slightly different shade of black. They probably look better now. And you can get them in different colors.
Oh, and that sight paint should work great.
-
I just got a new pair from them in black. It's more of a matte black now, vs the high gloss I recall my previous pair was (which were damaged and why I ordered a new pair). I believe the gloss was more accurate though as my short-rail's original waffles are shiny. Can anyone verify? I can try to take a photo later.
Regardless, very well made grips and they fit perfectly.
-
Here are the three CZ 75s that I've refinished. All were sourced through Robertson's Trading Post via GunsAmerica.com. Good folks to deal with.
BTW, the second had 'A.A.L - Phila, Pa.' engraved on the front of the slide (seen in the photo). It looks like a person's initials but I'm surprised to see that on an ex-Czech police weapon. It looks like it's been on there for a long time. Just thought it was interesting.

Here is mine, dated 1992 serial number J34xx[/img]. Hopefully this picture will work. No import marks. Nice 3-dot Bo-Mar Patent target sights with the front dovetailed in and the rear of the slide milled. Is it possible that this may be a Frankonia because of the lack of import marks? The SA trigger is 1 1/2 to 2 pounds with virtually no creep. If not a Frankonia, then some gunsmith did a great job on it...Now hopefully this photo will work. Please excuse the quality since I took it with my cell phone.

OK Now what do I have to do to get a picture like the above posts. I can\'t seem to figure that one out.
From the link I posted before:
"Take your main picture link and paste it with "[ I M G ]" directly before the link and "[ / I M G ]" after the link.
Or just copy (CTRL +C) the tag off of the hostsite/Photobucket called: IMG Code - Forums & Bulletin Boards"
Also, you can click the "Preview" Button to see what it will look like before you click "Post"

Nice Pre B. The stamp is the importer. Your pistol appears to be one of the police trade ins from the Czech Republic that showed up a few years ago. Robertsons Trading Post sold a lot of them and there are many that benefited from this import. There's a whole lot of information here from folks that are passionate about CZ firearms. Pre B's are awesome, historical pistols and one of the finest combat handguns in the world. Congratulations on your purchase.

I love mine from robertson's. it is the most accurate pistol i own. I there is ever another import i will probably buy 1 or two more for parts. best 339 dollars i have ever spent.

--Sorry Gents, hate to be that guy, but can someone school this old soldier on pic attachment. I see the link is active but the pic is not readily visible. Help....
Holster is a classic Thad Rybka Rhodesian. Perfect match for a classic Cold War sidearm.

Perhaps another image...not sure. '86 w/original waffles (although not original to the pistol) refinished by Fords Custom down in Florida. The pistol looks perfect.

I had bought mine from the Munich Rod and Gun shop in 1987 I paid $275 for it then made the mistake of going to the Frankonia store downtown for a holster, extra magazines, and a Mag Carrier. Ended up buying a set of the walnut fancy checkered grips they had on the shelves. Then when I looked at the CZ display case and saw all of the custom CZ 75 and 85 pistols they had I went home and soaked my painted pistol in Easy Off oven cleaner which stripped the paint off overnite and left the metal bare and took it to a local gun smith that specialized in pistols and had high profile combat sights added, matte blue finish, with polished controls, hammer and lanyard loop to ofset it. God I loved that pistol. When I returned stateside my daughter got sick and I didnt have insurance so I had to part with it. Good news was in 89 they were rare as hens teeth in the states and in its customized configuration and with no import marks I managed to get $1200 for it. Daughter got better but I have not found another like it.

Here is a picture of one that I just bought yesterday at a local gun show. It looked almost brand new except for the Pachmayr grips. The year on the gun is 1988.

Epoxy coat was badly chipped so it was tripped using Jasco. I'm gonna test fire tomorrow before I decide on a finish.

No one has posted a picture in awhile, so I thought I'd show of my new grips, grabbed off ebay. They are walnut, and styled like the early plastic grips. Gives my matte blued Pre-B a business-like look. Any knowledge of where those originated from? I've been scouring the internet trying to find wooden classic style stocks. Very cool!

Vintagegungrips.net has the lowest price for the retro look waffle grips in wood. Look also in their discounted section for plastic ones in burgundy color. CZUB (Czech web site) has them in black and silver color in aluminum. I've got three out of the four :)

Chief, welcome to the forum. It sure looks like you picked a good one for a very good price. That trigger is very good and can be made outstanding with a little help from friends here on the forum.
Looking forward to hearing about your first shoot with it.
When did you retire?

Congratulations on the great find, Chief. Is that an 84 above the extractor?
Speaking of E-9's.....I was waiting awhile for a booth at an indoor range today and a gentleman who was shooting there came out and greeted me. Turns out he was my CSM from back in the the good old Reagan days and remembered me. Can't ever hide from those E-9's ;-)

@1SOW. I retired 1Feb of this year. Were you at the 1st SOW at Eglin? I can't wait to shoot it and will definitely report back. Thanks for the welcome and look forward to getting some good gouge on these pistols from you guys.
@pysop96. I went and checked; It's actually "1986", is that the year of maufacture?

Thanks for the info Chief! Have anything to do with gunships while at Herby? My sister lives in Destin.

Back then, 6 models of C-130 inluding the "AC" Gunship. The new U-model Gunship arrived just before I retired.
Destin is a beautiful area. Lived in Ft Walton Beach for about 3 years.
The Fraternal Order of Police near there, has a nice little "Action Shooting" range and welcomes military. 8)

My CZ 75BD has long been my favourite pistol to take to the range, but I have always wanted a Pre-B. I love the lines and the rounded trigger guard and the absence of a firing pin safety makes maintenance so much easier. But they are extremely rare here in Ontario. I grabbed this one when I saw it last week and took it for the first time to the range last Saturday. Out of 100 rounds I had 4 FTE, and I am ordering the extra power extractor springs from Wolffe to address that problem. I'm keeping it as is - no refinishing - I really like the old school service pistol look. Manufactured 1992.

I have an orig. CZ75 manufactored in 1987 along with it's younger brother, an orig. CZ85. The 75 has 25 rounds pushed thru it and the 85 has never been fired. I'd like to show pics but can't seem to figure out how to post attachments. Both pistols purchased at a U.S. Forces Rod & Gun Club in Heidelberg, Germany in the late 80s.
