I have just obtained a 1994 transitional 75. It's got the B frame, uses B mags, and the slide is very close to a B. The hammer and beavertail are slightly different from my B, but that is most of the difference that I can see externally.
Looking at the FP block (my terminology, not sure if it's correct) there is a difference in the firing pins. I think that it may be the firing pin block safety, but I would like to be sure. I do not have pictures readily available, so I was curious if anyone had pictures comparing the insides of the slides.
Love my Pre-B, but I am hungry to find a classic Pre-B to add to the collection now.

If there is a plunger on the underside of the slide, it has a FP safety
If the sear has an extra arm (it's actually a seperate part from the sear) on the right side that moves up when you pull the trigger, it has a FP safety.

The easiest way to tell if it has a firing pin block is to see if there's a roll pin through the slide right above the safety. If its there, it has the firing pin block. If its absent, it has a firing pin stop.
You can tell at a glance.

That would work too. Forget about the roll pin and lack of keeper block on the back.

Thanks for the info. It looks like my transitional 75 is functionally identical to a 75B including the FP safety. Hmm, perhaps it's time to look for a classic Pre-B.
