Title: Best way to remove painted finish on CZ 82 to prepare for Duracoating
Post by: Ferdy on September 12, 2009, 11:39:04 AM
Is it possible to chemically strip the finish, or is sand or bead blasting the only (or best) way?

Thanks for your help and responses!

Take a look over at gunboards, here is a link to some good info on refinishing...

If you haven't already heard, tearing down a CZ 82 for refinishing can be a real tough job for reassembly, be thorough, slow and careful!  That's the word out there. If you have the time, and patience it is a good way to get to know your pistol.

Good Luck!

Bead blasting leaves the finish too smooth. If you have to blast it has to leave a rough finish. If there are no major chips etc just do it over the top. Have done several Duracoats and it is an amazing finish for the DIY.

BTW if you have not ordered your duracoat yet you can send them a color sample and they will match your color for free as opposed to just buying a color they sell normally.
