Title: more then just a muzzle break
Post by: DOJO on October 20, 2009, 04:42:54 PM
Going to buy a muzzle brake soon for my VZ-58.
But I was wondering if anyone here had been able to compare them?
I dont want to buy a muzzle brake just for the look as i would prefer that it got some function to it.

I do not have any direct comparisons to other breaks, but I believe it does work very well. A few of us have shot the vz.58 (with and without muzzle breaks) and our vz.58 muzzle break reduces perceived recoil and muzzle lift.  In my opinion, it looks cool, the Czech military uses it, and it works well.  And, we buy our muzzle breaks from the same manufacturer who provides them to the Czech military.

Hmmm -

My D-Technik simply has the extension to make the barrel length legal in the USA.

IMHO it is an uncommonly light shooting weapon, given the caliber.

So I personally don't see the need for a muzzle brake.

I agree, there's not a need for the muzzle break.  In my opinion, it's a "nice to have" option. The vz.58 shoots very nicely with or without the muzzle break.

thank you got your reply.

I'm located in USA so I have to install a muzzle break on my VZ. With different option of muzzle break that are available in the market right now I didn't know which one to choice. And the looks didn't matter much so thought maybe some of those muzzle breaks had some advantages over the others.

thanks.

With the VZ-58, I think the break is more for control in full auto...  From what Ive seen on youtube videos, the cycle rate of a VZ-58 is considerably higher than an AK-47 and the muzzle rise is more pronounced as a result.

I'd love to have a select fire vZ-58, but alas! I sincerely doubt a single transferrable one exists in the US, nor could I possibly afford it. :'(
Thanks for the video! ;D

You may want to check out:  http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/  - Red Rifle Forum.  You have to join to gain access, but it is worth it.  They have discussed a multitude of muzzle brakes.  It's amazing how many expensive muzzle brakes there are out there that don't seem to work.   The VZ-58 (VZ-858 in Canada) seems to be very popular up there and some of the photos they post can really get you thinking.
