Title: grip thickness for the SP-01
Post by: Matt85 on April 22, 2010, 09:14:12 PM
ive been thinking that i need new (thiner) grips for my SP-01. the problem im having is that my thumb cant reach the slide release. my origional plan was to get some of the coco bolo grips but after checking the size chart at czcustom.com i relized that they werent much thinner. so am i stuck with aluminum grips?(other options?)

also, if im stuck with aluminum grips. how can i tell which size (thick or thin) to use? i cant afford to buy two sets.

thanks

I would call CZ Custom and ask them. Plus when you
get your answer could order at that time if you want to
buy them new.

hey matt, im actually experimenting with making some cocobolo grips that are the same thickness as the thin aluminum grips. I dont know if they will work out or not but i will keep the board posted. I should also have the new trigger pins i mentioned in another post ready to go.

I will say that i do currently have the aluminum grip tape thin grips and i still cant reach the slide release on my SP01. I love the grips but my hands are just to small. ::)

with the stock rubber grips, how close was your thumb to the slide release? (while keeping your sights on target)

did the distance change at all with the thin aluminum grips?

Hi -

I used the stock rubber grips before trying out the thin aluminum ones. I have big hands (can palm a basketball) so I am always conscience about accidentally activating the slide lock. I picked up the thin grips from CZ Custom and haven't looked back. Excellent fit and function. Better grip on the pistol and more accurate shooting. Perhaps less recoil absorption, but the 9mm Shadow recoil is already low.

Hope this helps.

enrico,   Those are good looking.   However you won't save much weight.   2.12 oz or .06 kg
