You cheated!  That's not an 85 Combat!  That's nice pre-B 85!   (Hard chromed?)  Made in Czechoslovakia, not the Czech Republic...

DID NOT!:)   Bought it new when I had my FFL at the time. 1993. Originally was enamel, but I sent it down to Checkmate Plating in Florida. Horace, who owns Fords Gun www.fordsguns.com (http://www.fordsguns.com/), worked there at the time. Done a heck of a job on the pistol! Highly recommend their(Ford's) work. I had this one done in a brushed hard chrome. Here's the original box. Actually I'm kind of surprised I still had it around after a divorce and a couple of moves.

Nice gun.  Yours is the first I've seen that was marked as an 85 Combat on the box, but not on the slide, and which had that that older, pre-B style sight.

Here's mine.  (I need to go to a higher resolution picture, when I get some time.)  Notice the "Combat" on the slide.

Nice 85, Walt. I'm not particularly fond of the rear sights on mine. Not because they don't work well, it just pretty much eliminates me any options if I was to ever want/need to change. If I had to sell all my handguns and could only keep one, this one would be it, though. I've used it to qualify for a couple of pistol courses over the years and plan on using it when I qualify for my CCW permit.

My well loved 85C, it has the best DA trigger I've ever felt, and the best SA trigger outside of a 1911 or tuned S&W wheel, at least imho.  I have no idea if the previous owner (I bought it used) did anything, but I love it...

I recently discovered that CZ-UB made some form of the "85 Combat" since 1986. A true Type A CZ 85 Combat has a different shaped triggerguard than the transitional or new production 85 Combat. The triggerguard was neither round nor square before 1992, but had a sort of recurved shape at the bottom. Unfortunately, I do not have a picture.

Yep.  I decided to take a chance in case Santa Claus is real.  You gotta believe!

Actually, you may recall that I have been talking about getting one for six years off and on.  If a million dollars worth of talk could net you one real dollar, I would probably have three or four by now...

Anyone want to trade their 85 Combat in nickel for a lightly used P-01?

I just got this this winter. I didn't want to use my short rail (early classic) pre-B for IDPA shooting so I bought a CZ-85 Combat. Trigger has almost three times the take up compared to my CZ-75. Also heavier but that's ok. Either I will have to get used to it or I will need to work on it.

Thanks for noticing them!
Got them from marschalgrips.com
Made from Wattle wood, red shellac finish, checkered, w/ thumbrest, RH.
They ship from Budapest, and it takes 2 to 3 weeks from the day you order but, I think the grips are well worth
the wait. The cost is the best deal I've seen for grips of this quality. They have several to choose from for CZ's.
Hope you have fun choosing a set. And , FYI- mine fit perfect. ( I don't work for this co. or have any connection
to them, I just really like the grips and the price)

Why do pictures of pistols always seem to have a pocket knife?

Can't we use girls instead?

I finally got the work finished on my 85, so thought tonight I would snap some pics and show her off. This is my first CZ ever, and i'm pretty impressed with the accuracy on this model.  I also wanted to get the duo-tone model, but that was impossible to find in stock anywhere. This nickel was in stock in some wharehouse in the DFW area, so grabbed it. I just started IDPA, initially with a Sig 229 0.40, but it wasn't good in the longer (20yd) targets and the magazine release was difficult to work quickly.  This 85 combat is great for this competition stuff.  The extended mag release is fantastic. I had a local smith do a trigger job on it, replaced with ghostholster's competition hammer (http://czcustom.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=39&osCsid=2bb953c3d2512241a79c7dab7d89bffa), reducing the DA/SA from 11.5/5.5 lbs to 8.5/2.8 lbs, and he rounded down the square trigger face. Put a fiber optic front sight on it and wrapped the handle with some custom, 'slim' grips from Marschalgrips (http://www.marschalgrips.com/?content=CZ-models) (<- great deal, and outstanding quality). The rubber ones were too thick to do quick magazine changes, I suppose I have smaller hands than most; anyway, these new grips are perfect. And, i added those rubber bases to the magazines. I hate to ding them up in dropping on concrete. Also, if you guys have any interest in holsters, I highly recommend Haugen Handgun Leather (http://www.haugenhandgunleather.com/search_results.asp?txtsearchParamTxt=&txtsearchParamCat=4&txtsearchParamType=ALL&iLevel=1&txtsearchParamMan=ALL&txtsearchParamVen=ALL&txtFromSearch=fromSearch&btnSearch.x=8&btnSearch.y=11) out of north dakota... this is my 2nd purchase from them, and it took only 4 months.

Ammunition that it doesn't like - Blazer aluminum (avoid this stuff) Two FTEs in three magazines.

To the pics...

That's an individual gun thing.  I've been using Blazer aluminum for years in all of my guns, including my 85 Combat, without problem.  My next bulk order will probably be Blazer aluminum.

A good point to keep in mind, however:  if you're going to buy in bulk, try small amounts before buying large amounts.  Some guns just don't like some brands of ammo.  (Same models might not prefer the same diet.)

Thanks Walt, i'll keep that in mind.  A bunch of shooters came up to me after my two FTEs during the match and asked me what I was using. When I told them, they said "I've heard CZs don't do well with the Blazer aluminum".  Fortunately, you may just have a non-tempermental example.  I'd prefer not having to worry myself. I'm testing the Monarch brass right now, and am liking it so far.

Consider checking under the extractor for a build-up of crud (a weakness of the design -- Most CZ clones open up the back of that channel so that junk goes into the firing pin chamber).

And, of course, consider replacing the extactor spring with a Wolff extra-strength extractor.

The only ammo I've ever had problems with in my CZs was AAA (brand) ammo, which was poorly quality controlled.  Some was so bad that it wouldn't even chamber in my Browning Hi-Power (too long!).

Right now, Blazer aluminum is about the cheapest quality ammo on the market -- its a bit stouter than most in terms of performance.  I use it when I can.

I don't particularly like Winchester White Box (Value Pak) ammo, but others here love it.  It's a gun thing, I think.

Not the best resolution, but I was using my cell phone.  Dual-tone with half-checker thin cocobolo grips.  No mods, but I did buy a Wolff extra-power ejector spring for later.  Just in case.  I called her Devana -- Czech cognate of Diana, goddess of the hunt.
