Title: is the 85 combat discontinued or what?
Post by: chrishogg1 on January 01, 2006, 03:45:39 PM
I had my local dealer put an order in for a satin nickel 85C on dec 24th. I stopped by a few days ago to put some more money down and he stated that it would probably be around 60 days before I saw the gun. Knowing that the 85C's are hard to come by these days I wasnt really suprised to hear this. That same night I posted about this on thefiringline.com and got an email from a guy who is also trying to purchase an 85 who stated that he called several distributors and even the home office in Kansas, and all of them stated that, with the exception of the polycoat, all 85C's were being discontiued. Anybody know if this is true? I must say this is all very disturbing for me. If they have been cut off I am going for the sp-01. Thanks

I have not heard that 85Cs were being discontinued but, rather, that the satin nickel finished models were being backordered.
CZ has, from time to time, talked about discontinuing that finish, and it may eventually happen.
In the meantime, we only know that they are in short supply and backordered.
Direct communication with CZ-USA might get you a definitive answer.
(Several years ago, CZ-USA floated a trial balloon about using silver polycoat instead of satin nickel and that idea was underwhelmed by the enthusiasm of potential buyers.)

Interesting. If CZ backorder the satin ones, I guess we all have to start custom hardchrome our black polymer'ed babies! Are CZ perhaps fighting production costs? Could that be one reason?

I would doubt the 85C is discontinued, like all firearm manufactures they re tool for production runs of different models. This will at times leave them in short supply of one or more models from time to time. With the SP-01 now hitting the market I would think they are producing them along with one or two other models. As soon as they believe they have enough produced they will retool and start making the 85C and other models that are running low and in demand.

I was informed by someone in customer service at CZ UB that they would be producing a stainless steel CZ-85 sometime this year. I am still holding out for a stainless CZ-85 Combat! I also need to talk to someone about possibly investing some of my Roth IRA money in CZ UB.

A well-tuned 85 (perhaps by Jim Miossi or Matthew Mink or Angus Hobdell) should be every bit the match for an 85 Combat.
Done right, the firing pin block of a 75B/85B is NOT an issue, and except for that, the 85 Combat doesn't really offer much advantage.
The 75B stainless has an ambi safety; just no ambi slide release.

well i started the thread and I will end it...I picked up my new 85 combat tonight from Ron Falk at Eagle Tactical in Pittsburgh...I am in love, with the gun that is...range report to follow
p.s. Ron hinted to the idea that we/I got the last 85 combat in the country, but I believe he meant until they produce some more.

Any new word on whether or not the 85 has been discontinued or if it really is just a production issue? Be nice to know since I'd like to buy one.

We've never heard that the 85 Combat has been discontinued, only that nickel versions were on hold -- due to other production priorities.
There has been a rash of new guns -- SP01, P-01, 40P, 75 Compact -- and I'm sure CZ is paying attention to guns with broader sales appeal FIRST, before producing guns for the specialty niches. I don't blame them -- their first objective is to stay profitable.

Picked my new 85 Combat yesterday, and shot 200 rounds through it today. It's the poly-coated version. It has found a good, loving home!

I was told yesterday by RSR - one of the largest distributors that the CZ85 Combat has been discontinued. They had 5 left, I took 3 of them.

So, they can still be had, but are perhaps back in the production rotation. What's a good price for a new one? I have no idea what the average price on one is. I bought a used one, but want a brand new one since I made a good trade.

Nickel chrome?
A small correction: Satin nickel! (There is no "nickel chrome" finish -- nickel and chrome are two different finishes, and CZ doens't do hard chrome.)
CZ does offer a new silver polycoat and satin nickel finishes -- and a stainless steel 75b -- all sort of silvery.

Well, maybe it's just RSR that has "discontinued" them.

Actually nickel plating is the first step in the chrome process and if they did not chrome over the nickel coat your gun would tarnish in about a week.

I just bought one at Bud's and got it in last week. They've always been in uneven production, I've noticed that there's times of "feast and famine" when some are available, and periods when none are.
