I bought a really nice Vz82 from Aim Surplus recently. It's a great shooting pistol but I keep having a FTE every 2nd or 3rd round in both magazines. The empty case is staying in the action and keeping the next round from feeding up. However, the empty case has been pulled from the chamber and is just sitting in the action. It has done this since I got it. So far I put in a Wolff 16lb recoil spring and firing pin spring plus I polished the feed ramp. I'm thinking maybe it is the extractor spring. Does anybody know where to buy one? I saw CZ83 extractor springs at CZ USA. Will the CZ 83 spring work? Are there other springs available (upgrades)? Thanks for the help!

Yes, the CZ83 extractor spring will work in the 82.

Sounds like the extractor isn't gripping the rim enough to ensure complete extraction.
Take a good look at the extractor itself. Make sure the "tooth" on it isn't chipped or worn. Sometimes people will insert a round in the chamber and drop the slide shut rather than "feed" the round from the mag. This can damage the extractor itself. The -83 extractor should be the same as an -82 also.
Have you removed the extractor? You may have gunk built up behind it, interfering with the operation. It's easily done. Drive the pin out from underneath the slide. Wrap tape around the slide first or something to keep the spring from "disappearing." A round cut-off toothpick works great to align the parts when re-inserting the pin. When complete, the pin should be slightly recessed on the bottom of the slide. If it protrudes any, it will interfer with the slide movement.
You say the "second or third" rounds do this, what about the others?

I would definitely try cleaning out behind the extractor if it isn't damaged and try again. After a few hundred rounds of pretty dirty ammunition mine extracted a casing an re-fed it backwards, if that makes you feel any better :P

Like the others said, try removing the extractor and spring (it's easy). I was refinishing the slide and when I removed the extractor/spring, there was a surprising amount of gunk in there. It never caused me any problems in the past, but if it got much worse, I could see where it may cause a failure or two.

I took the extractor out and it looks ok. A little dirty but nothing horrible. The extractor and ejector look ok, no chips, etc. It is usually the 2nd or 3rd round that the shell case stays in, all the others get thrown out fine. I think I'll try a new extractor spring and give it another try.

Well I replaced the extractor, extractor spring and extractor pin and it is shooting fantastic. I ran about 150 rounds thru it today without any FTE or FTF's. CZ USA sold the parts to me for about $45 delivered. It's a bummer having to spend money on parts like that, but thats the risk of buying old milsurp guns. I am really pleased with the pistol overall. And thanks to everyone for the advice!

Many new guns don't work any better out of the box. Glad your CZ is up to speed. Now you'll find out how addicting they are!
