Mine is both loose/sloppy. It flops back and forth and is hard to depress, very rough. I've cleaned it and reassembled it correctly, it works just not very positive and definitely not smooth.
Are they all like this?

The one I just bought seems to have been unfired until it reached the states, it only has a few hundred rounds through it and it has the same slop and is somewhat rough to push in both directions. I believe it's the nature of this particular mag release set-up. Mine has smoothed up some with a little use and fresh oil, but it still has the slop in it and I believe it will stay there due to the way the button and catch lever interact. The side to side movement on mine is only .020" though.
Every part of the mag release is available through CZ USA, the three main parts (button, lever & catch) are $9 each, the spring is $3 and the pin is $2. If you wanted to tinker with it total cost to replace the entire set would be $32 + shipping, my last order from CZ USA this past Thursday was $7.99 to ship.

It's a maddening affliction we all seem to have been infected with:
We start with an inexpensive gun and then we tinker with it and
dress it up and refinish it and give it new grips until the after-purchase
costs far exceed the acquisition price and yet we keep that sunny
disposition seen mainly on the stoned and the high. Hehehe!

That paragraph described my Marlin 60 and Para PXT14-45 perfectly. :D

Spending money to improve a gun you gotr for a bargain price is no different than sending a kid to college . . . you do it because you love 'em and want to see them at their best (kids and guns!)

After all my investing in DuraCoat, airbrush, wood grips, etc., I can honestly say my CZ-82 is now the most expensive inexpensive firearm I own. Worth every penny, too!
I think the mag release is the worst thing about the -82s/83s. Mine was very rough, particularly when operated from the left side. While I had mine disassembled, I filed and polished the rough edges on the button and two catch parts and applied a thin coat of bearing grease to them. The release operates better, but not as good as my other pistols. If it ever goes south on me I'll order new parts.

Some mag releases can be fixed and some must be replaced. I've worked on both of mine and one for a deacon friend of mine. I was able to smooth mine out but my friend's was worn so badly, I had to order new parts from CZ-USA to fix his.
