Title: My 82
Post by: Thorgrimr on March 06, 2011, 09:05:16 PM
Here's a couple pics of my new (to me!) CZ82, along with the holster I made for it last night:

I got it a couple weeks ago from Hart's Guns (http://www.hartsguns.com/) for $238.50 out the door with two mags and a cleaning rod. There are a few places where the finish is flaking, but overall I'm quite impressed with what I got for the money. I took it out for some informal plinking today and liked it as a whole. I hade some failures to feed and a stovepipe with Wolf Military Classic ammo, but the other stuff I had fed flawlessly. Accuracy was pretty good, although I think I'm gonna buy the meprolight sights for it (and make sure to get a taller rear sight when I do).

Just gotta make a magazine pouch now... ;)

The only thing I don't like so far is the stiffness of the magazine release button. I took it apart and polished the bearing surfaces with a stone, and it's still pretty stout. Does anyone make a less stiff spring?

Nice 82. I hope that you like yours as much as I do mine. I am sure that you will have an answer to your magazine release question soon. There are some very knowledgable folks on here. Congrats on your purchase.

I love the holster.  You should let us know if you'd be willing to make some for us (or me).  Anyways I have done a lot of going over my 82 as it is one of my favorite guns and dare I say the greatest gun value on the market.  BUT the mag release is just stout by design.  The mag release spring is pretty light and if you lighten that spring anymore then you won't have a secure hold on the mag.  The mag release work like a lever and since it is a very small piece that moves the larger piece of metal that holds the mag... There simply isn't much leverage and therefore the amount of force you gotta put into the mag release is heavier than the average gun.

Someone else may have found a trick but I personally just accept it because the design, imo, can not be lightened up really.

Yeah, I figured that would be the case with the mag catch- but it doesn't hurt to ask!

As for the holsters, sure, I'd make 'em for folks...   Just PM me for details.

you'll have to pm a price.  you may have opened a can here.  your holsters look great and many will want them if they see this.

I noticed many here saying their accuracy is par or sub-par but i must say my 82 is every bit as accurate as my SP01 shadow.  In fact I tell all my buddies it is the most accurate gun I own.  I guess mileage may vary or the white line on the front sight throws people off.  If you look at the pictures under the thread "my 82 work in progress" you'll see I don't have any white on my sights at the moment and rest at 10 yards this past weekend I was getting a tattered 1 1/2 inch hole.  No matter how good you and your gun are pistols just aren't the staple of accuracy.  But tennis balls at 15 yards with my 82 is exceptional I think and as long as I do as i'm supposed to my 82 always hits it mark.

Great gun and I like your holster.  I started making them about a year and a half ago and enjoy the process - just wish I had moretime to do it.  Here is an IWB I made for my son, last summer.

I hope you end up liking your CZ 82 as much as I like mine!

Thanks - I even lined it with a thinner leather, gluing rough side to rough side, so the inside is as smooth as outside.  I am "self-taught" to a degree - I learned by web browsing.

About the mag release, there is a guy named sailor curt who has a great website about the CZ82. Just google sailor curt cz 82. He has a tutorial about how to reduce the force needed to drop a mag without cutting spring coils.
