Has anyone tried to up the capacity of the 97B magazine? I mean is the 10 rounds simply an issue of space or is it a relic from the hi-cap ban days? Thanks.

Its a matter of space. You'll have to get an extended base plate to get more rounds into the mag. 10 x .45 rounds takes up a lot of room.
(That same mag can hold 15 rounds of .40 or 10mm...)

speaking of which, what then are the recommended hi-cap magazines that will go well the 97B.

I'm not sure what you mean by "high capacity", but MecGar mags are excellent--they are the original manufacturer of the 97B mags for CZ. They hold 10 rounds and work perfectly. I can't say the same about ProMags. I had one and I could only get 8 in it. I sent it back and bought another MecGar.
I am unaware of any "extended" mags that will fit the 97B. If there are any I'd like to pick up a couple for range sessions.

sorry for the confusion but what i mean is the extended mag, say 12 rounds or higher.

I'm unfamiliar with ANY "hi-cap" mags that fit the Witness or CZ-97 guns.
The only hi-caps I've personally seen for any .45 are in the Para and STI-type double-stack guns, and those were designed, from scratch to be higher-capacity guns.
There may be magazine baseplates/extensions that allow this, but I don't know of any. (Ones that fit the EAA .40 or 10mm mags should work.)
You may want to ask this question in the Tactics and Competition area. The large diameter .45 round reduces the options dramatically.

I picked up a new 97 yesterday, and these are the extra mags I bought with it, they hold 12 rounds and were list as EAA Witness Competition mags...the base are Aluminum.

No Problem.....these bases also have 2 small allen screws at the back that keeps them attached to the mag body, even if the tab on the bottom of the spring plate gets dislocated out of the hole.....I'm guessing to keep it on in hard use of competition. Other then that, the mage body is just a plain Meggar.

Those EAA Competition Mags may be the older (Late 80's/Early 90's) vintage Competition magazines that are very rare and hard to come by, unless they are making them again, which is doubtful, as your magazines have the older Black Follower, and the newer magazines have a Red Follower.
That rounded bottom came in a variety of colors. If vintage and you paid less than $70 each for those vintage magazines, you got a deal!

Yeah, I'm guessing they are older having the black follower. I paid 20.00 for the pair, I have no idea what they are worth, I mostly just bought them because they sold me the gun so cheap, both mags, the 97 and tax I was still out the door for less then 370.00 dollars.

Yeah Sonny! Congrats are definitely in order! $20 for a pair of rare Vintage Hi-Cap .45 Witness Magazines! Whoa! Call the Police! I would say you robbed that Gun Shop, but if that's what they sold them to you for, well, too bad for them! I've seen them go for between $40 to $70 each. The $70 each was more during the 94 AWB. Prices have come down as extended base pads have become more prevalent. Still playing with my CPMI base pad extensions. Probably going to have to mill out the lower Follower Stabilizing indentations, as is shown on your magazines, to get the CPMI's to work.

I have noticed that if you fill these mags up with more then 10 rounds it causes them to swell and be harder to push in...not sure why.
