Title: Cross draw
Post by: Uncle Alvah on October 10, 2005, 08:17:43 AM
Does anyone here carry their 97b cross-draw style? If so, what type holster are you using?
I always take the .45 with me when I take my dogs out at night, and in those cases, I just stick it in the waistband of my jeans, cross-draw style.
Seems comfortable enough there, and very natural to reach for as well, so it occurred to me perhaps I should be carrying that way as SOP.

I have a nice crossdraw Holster called "The Deskrider", originally meant for the Beretta 92, that fits most CZ's and my .45 Witnesses.  It was purchased from Sportsmansguide and has no Brand Name on it, except "GuideGear", so I assume they had it branded for them.  I've not seen them for sale lately, but you might check with Sportsmansguide.

The crossdraw is really slower into action than a strongside draw, not to mention you have to "telegraph" the draw moreso than the strong side if a situation arises.  There's also more possiblity that you might sweep part of your body with the muzzle and have something bad happen when the feces is hitting the fan and you have gone into fight or flight mode.
Most have abandoned the crossdraw, with the exception of some who provide "protection" services and spend a lot of time as drivers, in which case the cross draw is much easier from the seated position.
   Just some thoughts to consider.
