Given the size of my hands the long reach to the trigger of the CZ97B makes it necessary for me to readjust my grip between the da shot and the sa follow up if i'm gonna get any accuracy in that first shot. Has anyone run across a pistolsmith who has a way of shortning that da pull length without compromising reliability? A reworked trigger for example. I've tried growing another 1/4" of trigger finger but that hasn't worked out for me.

I haven't heard of that modification, but I would be interrested to know what you find out.

The length of pull can not be shortened; the trigger bar needs to go almost fully forward to reset the sear and firing pin block lever. If you were to convert the gun to SA only it would help as the trigger itself is set back a bit further but the amount of pre travel that can be removed in an SA trigger is only 1 or 2mm at best.

Why not just start from cocked-and-locked?
Then the first shot has a shorter trigger pull. (The 97B is designed to do cocked and locked, just like a 1911...)
Your accuracy will improve.

When I carry, I do. But when I play (IDPA), I have to decide between the 8+1 SA mode and the 10+1 DA mode because there isn't a category for 10+1 SA.

In that case, start from the half-cock notch.
Nobody will notice the difference, it'll shorten the pull a little, and it'll be a lighter trigger, too.
Its unclear whether starting from half-cock is legal in IDPA; some of the big wheels say yes, some of the underlings say no. [I'm a match director and certified safety officer, know the rules, but don't know the answer.] But since the decocker models all start from half-cock, its a design function of the gun.
That should do you well in the SSP division.

Thanks. That is the one thing that I don't like about IDPA. The whole point was to practice as you carry, and then some of the rules force me to not quite do that. If it were a 9mm (ie CZ75) then I could do it but not if it is a .45ACP. But it is still great trigger time and I will go for it!

What I normally do is bypass the da pull altogether and use the gun in sa only. I'll keep doing that till someone comes up with a way to recurve the trigger that brings it closer to the backstrap.
The problem I encounter isn't the length of the trigger pull, which can't be altered, but the distance from the front of the trigger to the web of my hand. My trigger fingers too short to use the da pull without changeing my grip on the piece. This slows one down. So I'll use it sa as I have been.

Simply replace the standard trigger with one from a P-01/SP-01. It is shorter, and some people have found that they can shoot the gun much better with the shorter trigger in place.
