Can someone explain to me the advantages and disadvantages to different strength recoil springs on the CZ 97B?

Well a hevier recoil spring should lower felt recoil and sometimes can improve reliability. I normaly only change stuff out if I feel there is a need. For instance my .40Bs factory recoil spring was garbage and did not even have enough power to fully close the slide while shooting so I switched to a wolf #18 spring and have never had a problem with any type of ammo since. I have a hevier recoil spring that I have not tried yet in my 97B because I hope it will help HPs feed better. At the same time as I think Walt has pointed out that the heavy spring may reduce battering when the slide goes back but will hit harder when it closes again so it is realy a trade off on that aspect.

If you're shooting hot ammo, a heavier recoil spring and/or a heavier hammer spring might help.

If you're shooting lighter ammo, vice versa.

If the gun is shooting well, and the spent cases aren't being sent into the adjoining county, don't changing anything.

Wolff Springs says that a well-matched spring will cause your cases to land within 6-8 feet. (Not counting rolling, etc.)

You'd be surprised how many good new guns are ruined (at least temporarily) by guys changing stuff before they really get familiar with the gun.  

Resist that temptation until you've shot it for a while...

What is a good spring to use with a JackAsh full length guide rod?  On his site he has Wolff 16,18,20 and 22# springs.  If any of those will work well I will just order both the FLGR and spring together from his site.

I remember reading that another member called CZ-USA and Mike, their gunsmith recommended 16# springs for both the CZ75 and CZ97.

I run the 18 pound in my 97 and I havn't had any issues.

I installed the jackash FLGR and a 16# Wolff spring and it works perfectly.The 97B also ran fine with the 18# spring but the cases were ejecting about 2' away.Slide speed seemed very slow.So I stayed with the 16#.
