Title: CZ 97B Questions
Post by: Alex45ACP on July 31, 2005, 05:59:39 PM
I am looking for a full size .45 for range use and home defense and will probably go with the CZ 97B but I have a few questions.

Which finish would you reccomend?  Anyone know where I can see a pic of the glossy blue and black polycoat side by side?

How hard is this pistol to disassemble for cleaning?

What options are available for aftermarket grips?  I love the way the gun looks except for the grips.

Are there any flashlights compatible with this gun?

Will the 97B feed hollowpoints reliably?  From reading other posts on this board it seems that modifications may be necessary depending on the type of ammo?

What upgrades are necessary to make the pistol 100% reliable?  Sounds like lots of people add a steel guide rod and stronger recoil spring, anything else?

Are $466 for the black polycoat finish and $478 for the glossy blue finish good prices?

Thanks :)

My preference is for the polycoat.  The only glossy blue I have is the CZ 83.  It's nice, but I've really grown to like the black, especially when there are fingetr prints involved. :)

Not difficult at all.

Check out Hakan's and Omega's websites to start.

Not that I've seen.

I've had absolutley no issues with any hollowpoint ammuntion, from my reloads to Winchester Silvertips.

See previous answer.  I don't do much swapping of parts, as I subscribe to the "if it's not broken, don't fix-it school". I've never encountered an issue with a plastic full-length guide rod on a CZ.

Thanks mbott :)

Do you know which finish this is and what kind of grips those are?

I think that looks really good.

Edit: Sorry, I couldn't get the pic to display but there's a link.

That's definately the polycoat. The grips I have no idea. Sam or Hakan could probably tell you.

Thanks sanger00verdun :)

I really like the way that looks but I'll look for a pic of the glossy blue before I place an order.

Polycoat finish with what looks like smoothed and thinned stock walnut grips...

Check the pics in this link:

I vote for the glossy as it's just freaking beautiful to me.  I ended up with a poly as I didn't want to wait.  It really depends on it you want ease of cleaning or a pretty gun (in my opinion).  I clean my guns every time I shoot them so having the blued wouldn't have bothered me at all.

Another option is to buy the poly and then have it hard chromed like sanger00verdun's.  Man, now that's one pretty gun!

Wow, that looks great!  Looks like I'll be going with the glossy blue.  Thanks :)

BTW, how did the Hogue grips work out for you?  I'm considering doing that when I get my CZ.

I have th hogues on mine. They didn't seem to be a great fit at first, they actually add a little girth as the do wrap around the front strap, but I sanded away a little in the finger grooves and the feel great now.

The Hogues feel pretty darn good to me.  They did make the grip somewhat thinner (left to right) compared to the factory grips but the extra material (~0.050") on the front strap increased the depth a little.

I guess I'm the odd man out.  I love the look of the polished blue steel with the stock checkered wood grips.

It might look good, I haven't seen any good pics of the glossy blue 97B with the stock grips.  I'm getting mine in a few days, I'll get some pics up.
