As I posted in the home 'smithing, I made a FLGR from a Stanley #81-9053 Utility Hinge Pin. This hinge is actually 4", and fit in the 97 very nicely. I had to trim about 3/16" off. I went to the range today and shot 250 rounds of CCI blazer, and some reloaded stuff I bought at the last show. Had a couple of FTF's(nose-dives) with the reloads, but no problems with the Blazers. As for the guide rod, it worked great. For less than $4.00, I couldn't ask for more. As for the accuracy of the pistol I'm amazed! Punched the centers completely out of 2 targets at 18 yds. Double tapped some steel plates also, and had a bunch of fun doing that. I can't believe I'm so impressed with a pistol that cost me right around $500.00!

Did the same thing! They were out of pins alone so I just bought the $2 hinge - make sure you buy the 4" & not the 3.5" one. Trim it to 3.951" OAL and also turn down the head to .380". Don't have a lathe? Not to worry, just put the pin in your hand-drill and hold it against a file while spinning it. Make sure you smooth it up w/ sandpaper and CLEAN IT! befor you put it in your 97B. I may try to clean off the brass plating & parkerize the FLGR to create a "tactical" model FLGR (ha ha).

Did you guys make that little nipple so that it mates to the barrel or did you leave it smooth? I made one out of a stainless steel bolt and matched everything on the original except the new one is longer and fatter. I just used hand tool and it turned out great. This idea was posted by another on another thread and it does work great.

The only purpose of the "nipple" is to center the disc of the rod on the front of the barrel underlug to facilitate reassembly. When the slide is mated with the frame, the rear of the rod no longer contacts the barrel underlug. I believe this issue has been discussed in another thread.
