Title: Riser Height Question
Post by: wisecane on October 26, 2011, 03:30:03 PM
I have a question on what height riser to buy so that I can use BUIS on my VZ.

First my setup: D-Technik VZ with NEA railed adapter, NEA upper/lower, and NEA barrel clamp. I want to use either these sights: http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/ARR5040-7.html

or these: http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/2TRYSSIGMCMSSBT00-1.html

The dot sight I want to use is a Mueller: http://muelleroptics.com/mqs12233mb

I know it is cheap but it is what I will be able to start with. I am pretty sure the Mueller will sit too low when mounted on the NEA upper. My question is what height riser will I need to bring everything into the same plane for cowitnessing.

Thanks in advance.

That optic may be tall enough to co-witness. But please, please reconsider your choice of optics. Out of all the cheap Chinese crap I have seen, that model is probably the worst. And that branded version is grossly over-priced.

I've read good things about the Primary Arms optics. This one: https://www.primaryarms.com/Primary_Arms_Micro_Dot_With_Removable_Base_p/md06lhmbundle.htm (https://www.primaryarms.com/Primary_Arms_Micro_Dot_With_Removable_Base_p/md06lhmbundle.htm) is the right height and it's the same price as that Mueller.

I have the Mueller Quick Shot on my VZ-58 and it works great. I do have it on the CSA mount and not directly on the rifle so that may or may not make a difference in functionality/reliability. Tried the Aimpoint H-1 but didn't like the scope vision too much. The Primary Arms optics is like the Aimpoint has the scope view versus the more open look of the Mueller.

OP if you have the ability try both styles of red dot. I prefer the more open look but the scope view may be better for you.
