Hey Guys, 1st Post.......
Sorry if this has been covered, but i did a search and nothing came up.....
I recently had my CZ82 cerakoted. (by Kentucky Gun Coatings, OD green, Beautiful job) and now the slide catches every once in a while a few shots into a magazine... are the clearances so tight that the ceramic coating would be causing this? Or was it possibly put back together after cerakoting incorrectly???
Any help would be appreciated....
Thanks in advance! - And I'll post pics of the gun when i get some pics taken :)

not sure without more infor / pics but check you slide lock spring making sure it is not bent or in the wrong spot on the pin. does it always lock back on an empty mag?
-
Is the slide stop getting activated? Chances are they bent the spring when disassembling your pistol. Easy fix. Take the spring out (looks like a sheep Herder staff) put it in a vise and carefully straighten the bend out
-
Likewise, I'm unsure as to what's actually happening.
Is the slide binding? Not going into battery? Locking back? The slide release engaging? The slide-to-frame fit of the 82 is relatively loose, but it's possible the cerekote is causing a problem.
-
I agree with SMSgt that the cerakote could possibly causing problems, but I don't think that's the problem. Cerakote goes on about one thou thin. The CZ's tolerances are too great to be causing interference by cerakote alone. Since you had it professionally done we can probably agree they applied it correctly. To someone who has never taken a 82 apart before, the possibility of pulling on the slide stop without taking the retaining spring out before hand is likely. (Ask me how I know!) ;D)

I cerakote this pistol often and that's not a normal issue the coating causing a problem . Improper reassembly or bent spring most more likely. If to much coating is applied the problem that occurs most of the time is tough time getting the frame and slide to mate together. Does your slide rack easily? Or is something in the mag or mags hitting the slide stop and pushing it up before your out of rounds.? this is a tough question for any of us to answer with out seeing the pistol and mags in question. These types of problems are why I test customers pistols before and after cerakoting. Yes some problems can occur from over coating parts, not sure if your problem was, how many rounds have you put thru it since you got it back and did you contact the company that did the work for you and ask them to check it out and try and resolve your issues? i had my cz82 Parked a few months back and already took the gun back to the gunsmith twice due to the mag release not releasing the mag easily. Ive never had any problems with the gun until the park job...but after the 2nd gunsmith visit, its all running good. He said he polished a few things up. Now the cz82 spits out the mags a few feet, like its rocket propelled! lol
Did the person that coated it for you give you any warranty?
-
thanks for all the replies.
Yes, the guns racks fine and always locks upon emptying the mag....
I will try to straighten/replace the spring and see what happens.
-
OK, so i pulled out the old spring straightened on a bench vise and reinstalled, and every thing seems good to go...slide stop is much tighter than before. I got an extra spring just in case I need to replace in the future.... now just have to put a few rounds through it to make sure..... :D
pics as promised......

I had mine done by them too. Excellent job! I was just shooting mine today and on the last 5 or so rounds it started doing the exact same thing. I'm going to check my spring tonight. Thanks for the thread and yor CZ looks great.

Resurrection and back on topic... I just acquired a like-new CZ83 from GunBroker, and first trip to the range had the same symptom of the slide catching back sporadically. pushing the release down allowed it to go into battery no problem for shooting to resume. There is no difficulty with hold open on empty mag.
This is a great accurate soft recoil shooter, I am very happy with the stock trigger and how well it performs! My girlfriend likes it too but has her own Bersa Thunder arriving soon.
So upon cleaning it, I find the slide release catch has enough slop or wiggle before the spring engages that it can move up just enough to hold the slide open. It looks like trigger has to be removed to remove the slide release spring, but I haven't gotten that far with it yet. Thought I'd come here and see what others have found and so on. All I found was this thread so rather than duplicate, I'm resurrecting it.
If anyone has had this and fixed it themselves, I could use a few tips if you can share them. Does the trigger need to come out? Where does the hook part go to remove it so the catch can come out? The explodo diagram doesn't give much clue. It is my hope that tweaking the spring wire a bit to bias it such that it is held out of the slide's path is all it will need. I just haven't gotten that deep yet.
Thanks in advance for what you can share!

Found this referenced from another post: <http://sailorcurt.com/2008/05/cz-82-gunsmithing-part-4.html/> and it's a bit different, it gives me what I need. Just need to find the right punch to remove the roll pin (in place of the machined pin referenced in the link). I should have dug deeper before posting, but maybe this will help others down the road a ways.
Thanks!

I had RoBar done on mine and never had any issues but noticed the spring digging into the finish on the battle somI could certainly see that could cause an issue.

Just something else to be aware of. ...
If the grips shift slightly during recoil (because the screws are not quite tight enough), they can push the slide stop up very slightly - just enough to make it lock back in this way. It has happened to me several times over the years.
With my grips, too tight is also bad because then the magazines won't fall free.

That is a good point about the grip(s) shifting and engaging the slide stop.
Try a small rubber O-ring on the grip screws. The head of the screw flattens the O-ring against the plastic grips, holding them tight without being too tight.

I have found the explanations of the trigger guard / trigger / slide stop and spring(s) removal here http://leolani.net/relics/cz82.html (http://leolani.net/relics/cz82.html) to be very helpful in the past.
It has been a couple of years since I had a CZ82 apart, so I do not remember anything specific to help. Good luck!

Thanks! The photos help.
I'll also watch for the grip screws loosening. I haven't used blue loctite on them yet but will soon. I'm pondering wood grips for this one.
Thanks All!

Where did you get those excellent grips?
