I am a Honolulu resident. I just purchased my second firearm - a CZ100 9mm. I'll have the gun in my posession in two weeks. These are the requirements before you may legally own a gun in Hawaii:
1) Complete an eight hour mandatory course on firearm safety.
2) Select your gun and then purchase it.
3) While the gun stays at the dealer's shop, you take the
receipt to the police and apply for a permit. This entails
two sets of fingerprints, a photo, signing a consent for
release of medical information from your physician.
4) Wait two weeks for permit approval.
5) Obtain the gun with the permit.
6) Take the gun down to the police for the registration.
Just wondering if there are any other states out there that have laws as strict as ours. Thanks.

I think you will find that there are many other states with far stricter laws on this than Hawaii. Although the Dr. statement is a new one for me.
Here in my home state, Virginia, the laws are not that bad. We have the instant background check and it everything clears the gun is ours. However we can purchase only one handgun a month, like I could afford more than one a month.

North Carolina requires a medical release for its Concealed Carry Permit (but not for a purchase permit.)
They then check with the local mental health facilities to see if you've ever been hospitalized for mental health problems. If you have, you've got to do so[me] explaining or extra justification to get the CCW permit.
