Title: CZ-97 Extended Firing Pins
Post by: schmeky on June 21, 2012, 11:20:06 AM
I have designed a new FP for CZ-97's and the best news is they will be extended.  This will allow the 97's DA to be tuned into the 6-7 lb range and retain reliability.  These will be available early July.

I have an early 97B. What is the issue with the firing oin? I want my 97 to be as reliable as posible, and haven't heard anything about their firing pins. Thanks.

nevada,

There are no issues whatsoever with the stock 97 firing pin.  Extended pins allow you to run light hammer springs resulting in a very light DA pull.

OK, thanks. I don't think either DA pulls on the 75 or 97 are at all difficult. Try an 1895 nagant revolver or COP gerringer or even a Colt Cobra and CZs are the sweetest by far. Not knocking anyone, Just saying I like mine as they came. Could be I don't have sensitive fingers.

nevada,

If you're happy, that's what matters.  However, the difference between a 16-17 lb DA and 6-7 lb DA must be experienced to be appreciated.  That's what the CGW CZ-97 extended firing pins have the potential to do.

Getting the DA pull down to the 6-7 lb range would be an excellent buying point with me for getting a 97! I might get my son to share the cost of a new gun. I have convinced him that there is nothing as good as a CZ. It took a while, but now he is ready to sell his Beretta and buy the 97.

schmeky,

Are the extended firing pins ready for release yet? I didn't see it on CAJUN Works site.

They went into production the first week in July and will be available the end of July.  I didn't realize how long it takes per pin (8-9 minutes).  I have 900 on order for 75/P-01/SP "B"' models and 100 will be for the 97 only.  Plus they have to be heat treated.

schmeky,

Thanks for the update on the delivery of the extended firing pins. Will you be selling them as a kit with a hammer spring and the extended firing pin? What will be the cost?

Sorry for all the questions.

The 75/SP/P-01 bare pins w/o a spring will sell for $22.00 each.  The 97 pins will be the same price.  Pins with my matching FP spring will go for $27.00.

All CGW orders of $30.00 or less have a $3.00 S&H fee.

Hopefully these extended pins are coming along soon.  I'll be placing an order as soon as I see them in stock.  I finally got my 97 of GB in like new condition.  I already put in a 85 combat trigger, cgw reduced trigger spring, trigger pin, reduced firing pin spring, and tried out the 8 and 11.5 pound hammer spring. The comp hammer and new sights are on their way.  With federal primers the 11.5 lb runs 100 percent.  The 8 lb at about 70 percent.  I'm assuming the extended pin will allow for the use of the 8 lb hammer spring?

I see that it lowers the DA significantly. Any change at all to the SA?
I know this is probably a stupid question but as the profile states. Im a Noob.

I have a well used CZ 75 Shadow that I recently converted to SAO with CZ customs flat adjustable trigger.  Set up with the 8lb hammer spring the trigger pull measures right around 1lb 10 ounces.  I don't have measured weights for the 11.5 or 13 lb springs though.  The DA pull is much improved with the lighter springs.

JakeG,

I received the invoice today.  The new FP's are in heat treating at this moment.  They have already been cut and are finished.  I should take delivery the end of July.  I have several project 97's waiting on this new FP.

heavypat12,

Not as much as you would think.  The hammer hook depth and angle are the biggest determinates.  However, the hammer spring does influence the SA pull somewhat.  Unfortunately, a lighter HS will magnify the amount of creep in the trigger/hammer.

Aargh . . . I received a phone call this week, the city/town in NY State where they are being heat treated was hit by a tornado and knocked out the power.  Jeez.  The FP's arrived on July 27 in NY and the normal turn around is 2-3 days.

On a positive note, the swiss screw machine shop said these were some of the toughest parts they have made in a long time.  They said these S-7 tool steel FP's will probably last forever.  I hope so.

Firing pins shipped today from NY, via UPS.  I should have them middle of next week.
