I have a cz 527 in 7.62x39. I am wanting to hunt feral hogs, my question is has anyone taken a hog with this caliber?
thank you for any input

I haven't, but I have heard from hog hunters on other forums who swear by the cartridge for hog.
We don't have hogs here, just javalina.

Killed a medium sized Hog with my Egyptian (Maadi) AKM back in 1995, down in Southern Illinois. Dead on Head-shot stopped him.

The SKS/AK platform is probably one of the more popular feral hog shooting platforms out there... The 7.62x39 has absolutely no problem killing hogs so long as you do your part.... which means shot placement.
I would spend some time figuring out which HUNTING ammo your rifle likes best... unless you are allowed to hunt with FMJ... then - just pick whatever it shoots best...
Thanks

OkieDokie 1982: I have taken 3 pigs so far with my 527 762x39 CARBINE. My Son and I hunt in NE TEXAS around a little town of OMHA TX. Lots of pig in that area, they have been seen right in town or that is what one of people we met there says. I really have not used nothing but WOLF 123 gr HP`s my gun seems to really like that ammo and it is cheap, I have yet to reload for this little rifle. 2 were head shots and the third was just behind his left front leg. All three of them pretty much laying where they were hit. I have killed quite a few Coyotes in KS, OK, MO., with it. I thing my CZ 527 X 39 is just great, might just buy a nother one if we find a good deal on one. Good Luck To You: ken

The caliber is certainly more than sufficient for hogs within say couple hundred yards at the very maximum
Pay close attention to bullet selection however and especially at those longer distances
Russian made hollow points tend to fragment excessively and most russian soft points tend to fail to expand sufficiently as well as shed the jackets. Supposedly the 154 grain tula/wolf soft point gives decent results but is somewhat less flat shooting
Boars can be tough....
My bigger problem is just finding them on public land especially with the severe drought going on on the left coast
Inevitably and unfortunately we're being twisted into going lead free here which means severe increase in cost per shot which sucks even more

I have the Silver Bear 125 grain Softpoints and they do seem to be expanding regularly.
The Video link below shows a Gel Block Test.

Yup! Backdoor Gun Control, done under the guise of Environmentalism.
If they can't directly ban Firearms, they go after the Ammunition.
Wonder if California Law Enforcement will have to obey those regulations?

The lead free regulations pertain to hunting only
( excluding target practice - maybe except in the condor zone in southern cal, I'm not sure)
Law enforcement as such is exempt from lead free ammo restriction for duty carry however if a law enforcement officer were to engage in the act of big game hunting he would also have to follow the law and use expanding projectiles with lead content of less than 1%
The law is not quite in effect yet (except in condor zone) as details haven't been finalized by the fish&wildlife which does tend to serve its disgusting political agendas
There are also some twisty exceptions to the regulations based on affordability, availability as well as vague provisions for reimbursement of cost to those affected by it in certain areas as I recall
In short it's convoluted and illogical like the rest of it, continuing on the downhill slope of hate driven insanity
On a lighter note, we've stumbled upon a deer camp site of retired fish and game wardens last year deep in the woods (based on later gathered intelligence) and had an encounter with an on duty patrol in the vicinity, obviously actively keeping the "riff raff" at bay , they were very pleasant professional guys following procedures, helpful in explaining practical nuances of ever changing regulations. Checked our tags and chambers (guns in truck)
When asked about the lead free debacle they rolled their eyes...
..,and as your video showed the jacket completely separated from the core, a scoffed at 'no no' in some pedantic brand name only -bullet circles , not that the hog would care.
