Title: Evidently I'm one of the lucky ones (CZ 550 Classic in 7x57)
Post by: TasunkaWitko on September 17, 2012, 09:52:43 PM
I'm a proud owner of a CZ 550 Classic in 7x57 - it looks great, shoots great and performs well on Montana deerand antelope.

I'm familiar with the American line - can anyone tell me about the "classic" line? Is it an older version of the American line, or is there more to it?

More questions later, but this is the one I've been wondering about since I got the rifle.

Thanks -

Well, that's part of what led me here ~

I've had this 7x57 since 2003; a first-rate, quality rifle. It had the American-style stock with a really nice checkering pattern, and once I opened up the barrel channel a little it shot like a son-of-a-gun! here's a picture of that rifle:

Unfortunately, that stock had a little bit of a problem right where it contacted the bolt handle, and it recently cracked right along that blemish. CZ provided outstanding service when this happened, and very quickly issued a new stock to me.

I just received it yesterday - it's quite a bit different from the original stock I had; I don't have any pictures yet, but it looks just like this one:

Aside from the different checking pattern, it has a darker finish. I miss my old stock, but this certainly seems to be a very nice, good-quality, walnut stock. I could be wrong, but it also seems lighter where weight is concerned.

The barreled action dropped right in, and I'm looking forward to taking it to the range and giving it a try. Hopefully, I won't have to do too much fiddling with the barrel channel etc. - hunting season is closing in, and I can't wait to take her out!

I want to take a moment to give huge thanks to Neale at CZ-USA. his help and assistance, as well as the lightning-fast service, were top quality, and is very much appreciated. I've always been a fan of the CZ 550, due to its quality and performance, and it's great to see such outstanding service, as well.

Sounds like a great rifle. Congratulations on your new purchase!

One thing about 7x57 Mauser, though-- you will want to load your own, or find a way to buy European CIP-spec ammo. American SAAMI-spec ammo is pretty anemic and under-powered, in comparison to the cartridge's real potential.
