Has anyone had a firearm nickel plated? If so how did it work for you? I am considering having an upper nickel plated.

I have no personal experience on the subject but if it were me I would use http://www.mahovskysmetalife.com/ . I've heard they do great work.

I have had electroless nickel plating and hard chrome and prefer hard chrome for its wear resistance.

I have a CZ 75B .40 satin nickle, a CZ75B 9mm Duo Tone, and a 1903 S&W .32 Hand Ejector in nickel. I prefer the look of nickel to hard chrome (which is the next step in the plating process). It gives a more golden undertone to the firearm that makes it look more "alive" and less sterile.
With a nickel plated gun, you don't want to use any type of solvent designed for "copper fouling." The reason is because of how the plating process works. When a gun is nickel plated, it is first stripped of any type of finish down to the original steel. Nickel will not bond to steel, but it will bond to copper. So the gun is first plated in copper, and then the nickel will bond to the copper. By using a "copper fouling remover" or other ammonia based cleaner, the cleaner will get below the nickel to the copper and break down the copper. When the copper breaks down, there is nothing bonding the nickel to the steel so the nickel peels off.
All in all, nickel is my favorite looking finish. I think you will really enjoy your plated upper! PLEASE post pics for us after you get it back!

I have a nickel plated S&W 27-2 and it is such a pain to clean after the gun range I seldom shoot it.

I would consider Hardchrome.

Thanks for all the input guys. I am leaning toward satin nickel because I have a satin nickel 75B. I want to have my Kadet Kit plated so it will match. I am not a fan of dual tone pistols. Could be because I am Old Fashioned, or just old, (78) but they remind me of Franken guns.
Not to denigrate those who like dual tones, it is that they are just not my "Cup of Tea". Difference of opinion is what makes horse racing!!

Would consider nickel boron? May be more than your looking to spend will hold up very well, is super easy to clean, and needs minimal lubrication. I had my 75 shadow done Cummings custom refinishing with great results. Tend run specials around holidays also.

CoGT3,
That actually looks pretty close to factory finish to me. Nickel boron is some slick stuff, too. If you don't mind me asking, what did they charge you to refinish?

Did come out as a nice satin finish. Believe it was a touch over $200 for the whole gun. Frame, slide, and internals done in nickel boron. Barrel, guide rod, and controls in CeraPlate matte black. This was I think 30% off normal cost due to a summer sale.

Ace,
That's who did the Shadow above in Nickel Boron.
I think you both are correct. They seem to know what they are doing over there!

The slide off my 75B compact is at Mac's Restorations right now being plated satin nickel. I like 2 tone pistols but didn't want to deal with the high cost of shipping the frame so I decided to do just the slide (like the poly framed duotones). The compact was like new but sitting unloved n my safe. I thought it needed a new lease on life.

Got my slide back from Mac and it came out great!
