CZ-UB unveiled a beautiful new bolt action in The Czech Republic, the 557! I am a sucker for a rugged rifle with iron sights!

The 557 WILL be imported into the US, but not until 2014. Callibers will be; fixed magazine: 30-06 Sprg., 308 Win., 270 Win., 6,5x55 SE and with a detachable magazine: 308 Win., 243 Win., 22-250 Rem. I wanna 557 in 308 for Christmas 2014...

Chamber one in .280 Remington (or, if you're feeling REALLY adventurous, 280 Ackley Improved) and you've got a sale...
...just throwing that out there...

Thats a tough call. Mqybe 270 maybe 6.5x55.

I could easily see that as my deer rifle. 8)

The front sight reminds me of the batue.

That really is a good looking piece of kit. 2014 feels like such a long way away!
-
NICE!
-
Hope they chamber 6.5x55 in left hand!

Wonder what the msrp will be.

If the 2014 date is anything like the 2013 date on the 455 Varmint Thumbhole I ordered, you'll see it in 2015. O0

6.5x55
Do wish they would offer it in .358 Winchester. Maybe someday.

CZ had better start offering rifles in more modern calibers such as .280 Remington. Around here, the .280 Remington is more common in custom rifles than .30-06 or .270 Winchester. 7x64mm Brenneke has been offered by CZ for a long time in Europe, so you would think they would offer US shooters the US equivalent.
The 557 is basically the 550 model minus the single set trigger.
Even Winchester is offering the new Model 70 Featherweight in 7x57mm Mauser. A cartridge that just about all other US manufacturers has forgotten. I know, factory ammo sucks in the USA for 7x57mm Mauser, but I don't shoot factory ammo except for brass. CZ should also offer true short and intermediate actions, and not just the standard old .30-06 action length.
If you have the money for a Sako or Kimber, you can get your rifle in the exact action length for the cartridge. Time for more factories to get with the program. AT least CZ offers a true mini-action for the .222 Rem class of cartridges.
CZ should also address the new Ruger .375 Compact and .338 Federal cartridges with rifle actions expressly fitted to those cartridges. The CZ 550 action is a bit long and heavy for a brush gun, and the new short magnums are becoming more popular all the time.

If it doesn't have the single set trigger, then my interest in it is greatly diminished.
That's one of the things I prize most about my CZ rifles. That and the general quality.
I have lots of rifles that have a "good" trigger. Just as I have lots of scopes that can be focused by some means. But I appreciate a SSet trigger and a European style focus ring nowdays. Opinon based on 38 years of hunting, deprive me of either and I may just not buy the rifle or scope that you are selling.
Just how I feel, nothing more. No one else need agree.

There is some great hunting videos on you tube featuring the 557. Not sure where they are but their hunting goat, deer, and boar. Definately europe, maybe russia. Couldnt post a link with my curremt setup.
