I've noticed that some scopes just can't be mounted on low rings. Even if the scope clears the barrel, the bolt handle smacks it on the way back or is prohibited from going fully rearward by the scope. I'm not a fan of mounting a scope any higher than I need to. There are some gunsmiths out there that straighten CZ bolt handles. Would this remedy such a situation?
The bolt handle on my 452 BARELY clears the scope. I want to replace the compact scope on my 550 Carbine Kevlar (.30-06) with a more full-size scope with a 42 or 44mm objective. I am willing to pay to have the bolt handle straightened if it means I can use a real scope and have good clearance with the bolt handle. I'm not willing to pay for the service if it doesn't remedy the issue.
I've never had a problem like this with any other rifle. My bolt handles have always had decent scope clearance as long as the scope was mounted high enough for the objective to clear the barrel.

There has been much discussion of this very problem. Both the places listed below offer a replacement bolt option.

this is more of a problem on the 527 and ive modified every on ive ever owned my self (covered in previous posts), it should not be a problem on your 550 unless your new scope has a very large mag ring indeed or mounted very far forward. i am not sure if a 44 obj will mount with the low rings, but i have mounted 50 s on med rings and the bolt functioned ok. on the rimfires the bolt handle can be a tad short, but unlike the 527 s ive never had one fail to clear the mag ring- some of the bolt handles (ball) are hollow and some solid both can be modified to take after market handles, the solid one ground down and then threaded to accept the new knob, similar to the rem 700 mod.
