Title: First look! CZ 527 CSR!!!
Post by: armoredman on February 24, 2013, 01:19:07 PM
Well, OK, it's not an OFFICIAL CZ rifle designation, but I like it for this incredible custom stock job by LAGS gunsmithing in Mesa, AZ.

Most important thing to remember, this stock is NOT done in any way, test firing was done by me to establish proper fit, which will entail dropping the comb about 3/8 inch and slimming the grip about 1/4 inch, then of course final finishing, which will also eliminate that little dark stain on the wood.

That grip look familiar? Yep, it's patterned from the AK family. The action is pillared and glass bedded for accuracy and durability.

Since I was test firing some of LAGS handloaded 12 gauge slugs, I put Big Dog next to the CSR for comparison.

Oh, what does CSR stand for? See that bump in the stock that makes it look pregnant?

That, ladies and gentlemen, is going to be a flush fit storage compartment for a spare magazine. This is why this model, which was originally a plain Jane CZ 527M, (like any of them are PLAIN!), with standard fixed sights, has had a LAGS custom rear adjustable sight mounted,

...and coupled with the new rugged stock design, is tentatively named the 527 CSR, for Camp/Survival Rifle. This is the lightweight and rugged rifle you can plop behind a truck seat, or take with you camping where a simple bolt action carbine would raise no eyebrows, something that has enough punch to handle almost all 4 legged predators, (Not too sure about bear, but I'd rather have this rifle than just harsh language), and certainly enough to handle any two legged predators.
Now this is embarrassing, but I do not have a single picture of targets I shot with this rifle today - the wind was incredible, and every time I go my stand set up...it blew over. The steel target named Thugly stayed up, but I had him close for pistol work, (note the CZ SP-01 magazine between Big Dog and the CSR), so what I did was try for a "man sized" target out at 200 yards, standing for more realism.

This is what it did from a front rest at 200 yards some time ago, with its favorite handloads.

I had ZERO difficulty using either standard hand loads or cast handloads keeping it on that vague "man sized" blotch in the 200 yard berm, that is, when I didn't let the wind blow me physically off target. I cannot wait for the finished product, because I am willing to bet I get well below MOA accuracy with good loads. :)

Thank you to LAGS! 8)

Not...one...reply...Hmm, I may have over estimated the enthusiasm for this project...

I must have missed it. Only can see it on my phone but it looks good so far. How does it shoulder? How do you like it? That's the the big question. Like the extra mag holder slot. Great job on the wood work too. I just know enough to realize how much time and effort that must have taken.

It feels great to shoulder, minus the two issues I mentioned which are being fixed. My buddy the gunsmith has had the rifle about 6 months doing the stock off and on in his garage. I figure it wil be another couple of months before it is finished - he works about 60 hours a week at his regular job. The man IS a master at his craft - if I win the lottery we're opening a storefront!

I know the problem why there were no responses - the wood is not finished!  O0

Actually, if it shoots as well as it looks, you have an awesome piece!
