Title: Shadow Custom & Kadet
Post by: hoghunter on March 09, 2013, 05:18:55 PM
Just into my second week of waiting for my SP-01 Shadow Custom to arrive from CZCustom and been searching the forum for how this particular gun functions with the Kadet kit. From the posts I've seen it looks like you need a heavier mainspring to get consistent ignition. Some folks have mentioned that original springs are in the box when you get the Custom- but I forgot to ask Stuart when I spoke with him. I thought the original spring is #15 and the Custom is #13 but I could be wrong. Is the #15 more than enough for the Kadet? Any other compatibility issues between the Custom & Kadet? Never owned a Shadow so I'm not sure how how difficult it is to change the mainspring in the Custom?

Most people recommend using a 17# hammer spring when using the Kadet, but I got along just fine with a 15# spring in my P-01.
Hell, I'm averaging only about a 10% (light strike) failure rate using a 13# spring in my Shadow.

I'll be testing my Kadet/Shadow with an 11.5# spring soon.

Yeah, as Jon posted, 17# gives the best / most consistent reliability
If you're going to swap Hammer Springs, go for the one you can always count on

The 13# spring in my 75B is not reliable. The 15# worked reliably for the little while it was in use.

Hiya and good day Hoghunter, week 2 of how many in waiting???? If its still in the shop in Mesa,Az drop em a call and put the 17lb mainspring before they ship it, why not have em do the short reset while they have it...lol   it is very sweet, cubed. It would be on mine if my buddies there would have told me it was to be introduced 2 months after I had a SAO trigger fitted on the shadow. With the 13lb that comes with the tuned Shadow failed to fire federal ammo half the time, 17lb less than 3 percent, and thats prolly primers, and of the 3 percent half pop on the second hammer drop. I loved the FO on the Shadow so much, Stu put one on my Kadet, green works better for me, and for 6bucks they could drop that in your case too, you'll need ta raise the rear a lil to zero if a shop dosent do it for ya on the install. Dont forget your custom Dennis uplula, will prevent alot of hand abuse. Good luck hunting for ammo, and be well

If you are planning to run a Light Spring for your 9mm and a Heavy Spring for your Kadet, you'll need the "Joe/Tool"(forth one down):

Thanks for all the replies guys. I just picked up a 75B in Matte Stainless so I'm not as concerned about swapping hammer springs for the Shadow Custom. If I ever do find a Kadet kit I'll likely just slap it on top of that new 75B. It will give me a neat dual-tone look. Do any of you know what # spring comes in my 75B Matte Stainless?
Oh- and I'm about half way through the wait for the Shadow Custom. I am getting the short reset trigger system. CZ is getting a lot of my money this month!

After handling a compact Shadow Line at the CZ store in Prague the other day and was told they were heading to the USA (this one even had CZ-USA markings on the frame), CZ will getting money from lots of us in the coming months.

HH:
Sounds like a nice plan
Can't say for curtain, but I believe the stock Hammer Spring on the Matte Stainless is 17#
Here?s my MSS with the Kadet Upper (and a little more Matte Black)

Very nice, Den. Once the Kadets get back in stock (and I recover from my CZ illness spending this month) that will look very nice. I've ordered some Coco Bolos and matte screws for the MSS that should be here in a few days. Trigger pull seems plenty heavy to ignite the .22lr in the MSS. Now I don't have to worry about messing about with my Shadow Custom hammer spring.

Thanks HH
Sounds like you're on the right track
Here?s what my Matte Stainless looks like every day now....The DuoTone Semi-Compact:

The OEM Semi-Compact Upper has Meprolight Night Sights
The Hammer is from the OEM Semi-Compact Frame
The Trigger is the Extended Reach from CZC
All the Controls are from a B-SA
The Grips are (of course) Hogue
And I now have the Stainless Torx Head Grip Screws from

Ok DenStinett, probably a dumb question but I'll ask anyway. Regarding the safety leavers on your compact and on you B - I've seen them many times but failed to pay attention until now. Are they stock? My B had the flat style that does not portrude until I had the custom shop replace it with one of theirs. I really don't like the custom one but it works betteer for me than the factory.
The safetys you have would be perfect I believe.

Hi,

Could some one here offer me some advice on the Kadet (original not Kadet 2) and my Canadian Edition Shadow. Although my Shadow is not Custom Shadow (CZC) it is a custom build with a trigger job.

MY AIM

1) Use the Kadet with without having to change the main spring every time I want to switch between 9 mm and .22LR rounds at the range.

The main spring in the Shadow is a 11lb spring. I do not want to keep changing it ever time I want to switch between 9 mm & .22LR. I just want to swap the slide and recoil spring

I have done some reading about the Kadets. What is the "best" recoil spring to use with an 11lb main spring.

TIA.

Steve

Hey Steve:
A Recoil Spring has little to do with the Hammer / Main Spring in most functions
An 11lb Hammer Spring it very light and (unfortunately) you will experience a high percentage of Failure to Fire when used with a Kadet Upper
Some members have found that a 17lb Hammer Spring is about as light as it can go
Some have gotten away with 15lb
But 13lb has been found to be too light
In addition, if you?re using a lighter Hammer, this will increase your Failures
A lighter Firing Pin Spring would help?.if you can find one
Here is a Firing Spring Fix that ?could? help:

I took a little off of both sides of the Shoulder
More off of the back is better than off of the front
Also, a very high dollar 22 Round could help
Good luck in your quest

Dang it! Why is it we always find out about these things after we purchase!

Oh well I have purchased the Kadet adapter now so it's all trial and error from here onwards.

I will not be changing out the main spring in my Canadian Edition (9 mm) Shadow, it's got too nice a set up for that.

As for firing .22LR "expensive" rounds, what would you suggest in terms of manufature and also type (subsonic, standard, hyper velocity, high velocity, ultra, FMJ, HPJ, & grain.

I'm thinking hyper (40 grain)due to the bills tic properties.

Thoughts on this please.

:)

You're looking for the kind of Round with sensitive Primer
The stuff the Pros / Athletes use in International Competition
Eley, Fiocchi or Aguila
Even some of the high end CCIs have sensitive Primers
Eley Tenex is on the top of that list
Hope this helps
