Hi Folks,
Hopefully it's not against the rules to post this here, and my intention is not to start a political debate, but rather, to determine if this is a situation that anybody here has encountered before.
The other day (last Thursday, in fact) I had the good fortune to be able to purchase 10,000 SPP and SRP from Natchez Shooter Supply. This morning, I got my email that the order has been shipped. I clicked the tracking link and found this rather surprising message in the UPS Tracking status: "PKG DELAY-ADD'L SECURITY CHECK BY GOV'T OR OTHER AGENCY- BEYOND UPS CONTROL / PACKAGE WILL BE DELIVERED NEXT BUSINESS DAY."
Has this ever happened to anybody before? I don't like the idea of having the feds or whoever this was keeping track of how many primers I purchase.

I got the same notice when I ordered a thousand cases of tin foil. 10,000 huh? No wonder I can't buy a box of 100 at my LGS.

Tin Foil...I get it ::)
I shoot almost 2000 rounds per month of 9mm, so 5k of SPP will last me about 3 months. As far as the other 5k of SRP, that will likely last me the rest of the year, unless I start doing 3 gun shoots. If I'm going to pay 27.50 in hazmat fees + shipping, I'm not going to buy 1000 primers.
Any SERIOUS thoughts?

I think we're taking you seriously but we're waiting to discover if this is a more frequently occurring act on their part. I ordered a Bersa cleaning kit and an extra mag for my son as a Christmas present last year and when I opened the box at the post office, they were in a plastic bag, soaking wet, with an official note explaining they had been subjected to a "Postal Service Inspection" and to visit with an employee at the counter if I wished to file a complaint. So these inspections do happen- occasionally!

I did a bit of googling on this issue and the best information I can find is that it's because they are from Russia and that apparently foreign packages get more scrutiny from the government than domestic items. Not sure if this is true, but from what I can find in searches, this sort of thing has been going on since as early as 2006, so it's nothing new. In one instance, a guy stated that he ordered a bunch of ammo and some tactical clothing from the same company and they let the ammo through and held the clothing for security inspection. Go figure.

I have regularly shot over 1000/month of my reloads for years. Your order is not that large at all. Those that frequently order small quantiites pay a lot more and do without in times like these.
Maybe we should update our tin-foil to cast aluminum. ;)

I would hazard a guess thet "Tactical Clothing COMBINED with explosive primers" might have keyed a computer program.
