It's been a while since I posted here. I called about ammo at a local shop where I bought several pistols (including CZ75b Stainless) and asked if the had any good used SKS or even a VZ58. The salesman said he seemed to remember a VZ58 being on the rack since January (2013). Turns out it's a used Century VZ2008 in new condition (don't groan now) and the tag said $799 including four mags and leather pouch. I couldn't believe a VZ58/2008 would sit there for so long and asked how much $$ they wanted for it. He checked with the owner who said if I bought it that day he'd let it go for $550!! I said I'll take it and drove up the next day, to bring it home and did a complete cleaning and firing pin check, etc. I put 30+ rounds through it yesterday at the range and I'm amazed at how accurate it is with just iron sights and the recoil is way lower than I expected even without a butt pad and wearing just a T-shirt! Must be cause I'm used to shooting my Mosin 91/30 a lot. My only gripe was that steel I-beam of a folding stock was rubbing my cheek a bit. After poking around the net looking for a cheek rest for it, I realized I had several feet of half-inch ID clear plastic tubing in the shed. I cut a length to fit the stock, slit it length-wise and popped it on. It fits and looks great. I might even melt (weld) the split to keep it on better.

Post pics. And do yourself a favor and get that stupid slant muzzle brake off and replace it with the Slovak muzzle brake. It will further reduce the recoil.

Nice find at a good price. Yes they were less a couple of years aro but I fear those days are gone. I have a D-technic VZ58 not a vz2008 but if I ran across one for $550 I would probably grab it as well. The VZ2008 has a decent reputation for a VZ series gun and a Way above average rating for a Century product, I say that's a keeper.
There are many versions of padding on the OEM folder, I would just keep at it until you find the one that works best for you. I have the fixed butstock, FAB folder and the OEM folder. the only one I have not shot the gun with is the OEM folder. I will be probably trying your version in the future... lol
