Any idea how many of these were or have been made? Just curious.

Who knows.  More than originally thought as many have later dates.  Mine has a 2005 date.  Oddly enough, mine is still labled CZ-40B instead of "P".  (It is a 40P, though, and not a CZ-40B).

Yeah, I think CZ got a little lazy in putting the 40P together.  The older 40Ps have a milled section on the left hand side of the slide to remove the "40B" stamp, and the 40P stamp is within this milled section.  They are skipping this step in putting together new 40Ps, so the 40P has a 40B slide that even says 40B on it.  I know its just window dressing, but I like that the slide on mine says 40P (I think its an '03).

Another perfectly good hypothesis blown to bits!

There are four distinct slides on the 40P.  The first is the milled out area with CZ-40P stamped inside.  The second is not milled out, but slab-sided, with CZ-40P stamped on it.  The third is milled but with the original CZ-40B stamp in it (mine).  Presumably, this was originally stamped Colt Z-40.  The fourth is slab-sided with CZ-40B stamped on it.

The CZ-40B has two types of slide, the slab-sided and the milled, both with CZ-40B stamped on it.  My guess is a large number of the milled slides were originally Colt stamped and then milled for the 40B production.  Some were never stamped Colt and so were "virgin" when they were built as 40B's.  Some were still "virgin" when built as 40P's while others were milled down.

when I ordered 2, the dealer who ordered it for me told me his supplier had 6 left, and wasn't expecting anymore, because there were only 2000 made.  I don't put much stock in it, and wouldn't be surprised if it turned out to be a permanent member of the line that was not on the website, but that's what the broker said over the phone while i was standing there.

Its very unlikely we'll EVER know how many 40Ps were made -- firstly, because they are apparently still making them, and secondly because companies don't make information like that generally available (it proprietary business info and they don't tell that to anyone but selected share-holders until much, much later, if then.)  The exception was the Colt Z-40, and the initial run of 40Bs.  But CZ has made more CZ-40Bs...

Don't think I have ever seen the 40P on the CZUSA site. They have the 75 Compact .40 and the 75 Tactical Sport .40 both with rails but no 40P.....????
