Title: my new (old) 82

  I have wanted a CZ82 since i bought my Bulgarian Makarov 9 years ago. I walked into a gun shop today, and they have just bought a box with 6 CZ82's with extra mag, cleaning brushes, and holsters!
  However, when i dry-fired the one i liked the best it didn't seem that the hammer was hitting the pin. it looks like it stops just short. Another 82 I tried did the same thing.
  I have been shooting polymer framed, striker-fired pistols for a while now, and they are all modern. Am I missing something here? Is this a normal sign of wear with these pistols? Or is it some weird communist safety thing?
  I'd appreciate some good news here. I want this gun. Thanks for any help you can give.

It's hitting the firing pin, you just can't see it. Verify the gun is unloaded and drop a wood pencil, eraser end first, down the barrel and pull the trigger. Make sure it's pointed in a safe direction as it will go flying! :o

SMSgt is right. The hammer hits the firing pin,  rebounds and is held by the firing pin block. It's normal for the cz 82 / 83

The 82 and 83 have a rebounding hammer safety ? the hammer can strike the firing pin only when the trigger is pulled.  This prevents an inadvertent strike of the hammer from causing a negligent or accidental discharge.  It explains why there is a gap between the hammer at rest and the firing pin.  As others have said, a pull of the trigger will result in the hammer striking the pin, but the movement of the hammer is too fast to see it strike the pin.

i appreciate all of y'alls help. i got my gun, cleaned it up, stuck a pencil down the barrel, and launched it across the room.
the vet says the cat will learn to compensate for only having the one eye left. (just joking)
