Title: Finally in the 97B club!
Post by: CAGLS on June 30, 2014, 08:10:21 PM
Took home my 97B glossy blue a week ago. Fit's my hand perfectly with the slim grips. I've already disassembled, polished the sear, sear cage, trigger bar, modified the fpb lifter for a shorter reset, and changed the trigger to the newer 85C trigger I already had with pre and over travel set screws. I did have to round off a sharp beveled edge at the end of the trigger.  I left a tiny bit of slack in DA and have to get a CGW disconnector to remove the slack in SA. When I install the comp hammer from my Shadow Target into this when I install the wide low CZ comp hammer into the ST. Other mods I'll do is the Shadow left side safety, Shadow extended slide release. I blacked out the glow dots on the rear sight for a more uncluttered sight picture until I change the rear sight to a serrated target sight. I'll post pics up soon. I will definitely send the slide to CGW for the 1911 bushing mod.

Did you shoot it first?

Not yet but will be function testing it soon.

To be clear, you didn't function test it before modifying it?

I did cycle an fmj and hp round through, just didn't fire it. When I get a new CZ I always take it apart and polish up the action, then function test by shooting it at the range for any needed adjustments. When I inserted a mag it needed more than normal force to get the mag catch to hold the mag. The mag release is stiffer than normal but should get easier after breaking it in.

In other words, you violated the warranty before shooting it?

How could you know what was "needed," without shooting it?

Sorry I have violated all my CZs. I knew by the deep tooling marks I smoothed out, the long SA reset and slack in DA.

I think you max out every project you start.  I always look forward to seeing your thread pics.  I'll keep my eye on this one.  Oh and Congrats!

Very nice! look forward to pics. Although I have to agree with Radom, always function test (with live fire) before modification(s.) IMHO. ;D

He tends to do that lol. He knows what he's doing, he's not new to CZs.

I always shoot mine once for function test.  Not really sure why.  Just force of habit I guess.  I already know I will not be happy with them until they are properly upgraded.

Same here, just feels right. But hey, everyone does stuff different.

Since then I have already installed a new 85C combat trigger with a pre and over travel set screw, modified the fp lifter for a short reset, and smoothed out the fcg. I received some CZC and CGW parts and installed them yesterday, the CZ tactical rear sight, a left hand side Shadow safety, CGW perfection extended firing pin for 97B, 8.5# hammer spring and extended slide release. I plan on installing the comp hammer from my Shadow Target once I buy the replacement wide low comp hammer. The only other mod I will do is the CGW 1911 bushing mod and a CGW modified disconnector to remove the slack in SA.

Installed the comp hammer off my Shadow Target and fitted the Shadow safety to the sear. I also replaced the stock disconnector with the CGW T1 disconnector (version for non fpb). I removed the fpb from the slide, replaced the fpb lifter with a spacer. This allows for a smoother trigger, gives me a very short reset, and removes the slack in SA. I also removed the pre-travel adjustment screw on the newer version 85C trigger which didn't allow reset in DA. With it removed there is no slack in the DA pull in this gun.

I still want a 97B some day.
And the polished blues are just stunning
Love what you are doing with it.

My buddy has a fully customized 97B that I am trying to pry away from him.  So far he wants my RAMI in trade and that isn't going to happen.
