Title: Off Duty carry
Post by: mach1stang73 on September 15, 2014, 11:04:24 PM
Just curious if there are any fellow LEOs on here and what you carry off duty.

I carry a P01 after hours and would all day long if my department didn't make me drag around that boat anchor they call a glock.

1911 in .45. Same as on duty. I'm afraid of different manual of arms.

Sig P220 in a Galco Combat Master or a Sig P229 in an Alien Gear holster if I need to tuck my shirt. CZ 75D in a Don Hume if I want to travel really light.

Rabies,  missing pets and poultry has been their story in Texas.
Texas airdrops dosed food that supposedly helps with the rabies problem,  but ............

I have no idea how we got to coyotes on this thread, (attack post removed), but where I live we have many predators who hunt night and day, and anyone in the desert is wise to carry something bigger than a pen. My off duty carry is actually my CZ SP-01 Phantom. With a High Noon Down Under rig and a big t-shirt, it hides well even in Arizona summer weather.

I carry a CZ P-01 off duty.  As someone else said if I'm traveling light I carry a Taurus model 85.

Interesting thread to a non-professional like me.  I hope more will chime in with their off duty carry guns.

Right, as another non-professional I'm curious if the LEOs here feel that there's a difference in what their considerations/priorities are for off duty carry compared to what an armed citizen would carry.  That is - is there a difference between choosing an off-duty carry gun and choosing a CCW pistol?

Personally, I carry the biggest pistol I can comfortably conceal - so it's wardrobe and location specific.

Ditto to that - a tiny little Taurus TCP might be easy to pocket carry, but I like a sidearm that has the reach for any encounter, plenty of felon repellent on board, and reliability up the wazoo, so it's the Phantom. On the other hand, I have been known to carry my Smith Model 10-8 in this rig,

That, by the way, is the photo I like to call, "bad guy looks out the window right before Magnum PI knocks him out". Still have that shirt...

I carried my P-01 for many years as an authorized off duty carry, the first authorized CZ for the Dept. Still do once in a while, as it is still a fantastic pistol. But, as Widge/Grendel said, it's the biggest one you can comfortably carry that you are willing to dress around. At my age, I don't care if I look like a slob out and about - I've no one to impress. ;)
