Title: Modified SP-01 in IPSC Competition
Post by: dhanee on July 05, 2006, 01:57:37 AM
Hi - I'm new to competition shooting and was wondering if anyone knows how much youre allowed to tweak your gun in the Production Division.

Got my stock, out of the box CZ 75 SP-01 Tactical few weeks ago and just put on CZs Competition Rear Sight + Fiber Optic Front sight (same as the Shadow), also had a Trigger job (its about 3.5 lbs now). Is my gun still legal in IPSCs Production Division?

And if it is, how much more can I tweak it?

Thanks!

There are some restrictions from the IPSC rulebook on what can be done..

such as
minimum trigger weight, 5# first shot
barrel must be OFM, no longer than 127mm

check out the IPSC rulebook at www.ipsc.org
its page 51 where the production rules are..

Sorry to say that IPSC Production does not allow for trigger jobs as you are not allowed to do any more that minor detailing such as polishing so grinding is out and you are only allowed to use the Original Equipment Manufacture parts. On the other hand I believe that USPSA Production Division allows you to make quite a few internal modifications so as long as you are shooting USPSA you should be good to go.

IPSC PD is trying to get the gun to stick as close to as it comes out of the box with very few modifications allowed.

Whatever you shoot enjoy your SP01 as I am still waiting for mine here in Australia.

I agree.

I know you wrote that you are shooting IPSC, but I don't believe you are actually shooting IPSC.

Rather, are you in the USA?

If so, IPSC is not shot here at all (yet). Rather, the sport is shot under the guise of a different organization:

USPSA.  (see www.uspsa.com)

Its a little like trap/skeet - the US follows different rules than "Olympic" trap & skeet. Or boxing - we in the USA have different rules than the 3-round olympic deal.

If you are in the USA, then you are in luck as a trigger job is allowed in USPSA, but not in IPSC.
