Title: Thanks for all the help! New Stingray-c just arrived
Post by: edge4628 on January 11, 2015, 02:14:59 PM
Thanks again for the help! I had received a stingray-c for Christmas and the first time out the barrel bushing fell off. I came here asking for help and you guys gave great advice and I thought I would just post an update.

When I got ahold of Century they were very nice and helpful with the warranty replacement. The process seemed kind of long and drawn out; but, I understand it is because they ship the new pistol right to your door. They quoted me a turn around of 4 weeks. Being the impatient person I am I called J&G Sales up and they were also very helpful and had no problems sending out a replacement for the original, of course this meant having the new one transferred as opposed to right to my door. However; JG could have it here in a few days. So that is what I went with. I sent them back the gun on the 29th, they got it on the 31st and I had my new stingray in hand on the 6th, they paid shipping and my local FFL didn't charge me to transfer so that was a great experience.

I just got the new stingray out to the range yesterday and it performed awesome. I put 250 rounds through it without one single problem. I did; however, remove the roll pin in the front sight, widen it a little, and loctite in place prior to going to the range, just in case. It is a great gun, and I still recommend it to anyone that is on the fence about buying one.

Very Nice!  8)  Glad you were taken care of!  :)

I've bought two guns from J&G and they were great to deal with!  :)

Congratulations, looking good! Now we need a range report ;)

The first thing I try to do with a gun is try out the trigger, which is tough when buying Canik 55's since no one around me carries them. As soon as I started dry firing with snap caps, I knew I would be happy. It has a great trigger, especially comparing with guns at a much higher price point.
The slack on the single action is smooth and the trigger breaks cleanly, like a carrot. The reset is loud and tactile. The reset is a little long, compared to my carry, a Walther PPQ; but, I wouldn't call it a negative. I think the PPQ has the best stock trigger in a polymer gun, at least that I have tried. The double action is heavy, but not uncontrollable so.

The gun shoots accurately. The rounds were going right where I wanted them to, as good as I could put them on target. The sights aren't adjustable and that's ok with me I don't need to adjust them.

This gun is heavy, it feels like its built like a fallout shelter. Solid. This is my first all steel gun. The effect an all steel gun has on recoil is amazing. I could shoot this all day long. It is comfortable. The grips are some type of plastic, but no complaints. I'm sure this gun truly deserves a set of VZ's; but, for now the stock grips aren't terrible.

I don't have many handguns with external safety's, with that said the location and smoothness of the safety on the stingray is great. It is very easy to manipulate with a thumb, and while shooting my grip puts my right thumb right on top of it, so its less likely for it to be activated accidentally.

The slide lock lever position is also great, I have no problem shifting my thumb to disengage the lever. Speaking of the lever, the field strip is very easy. Not as easy as some polymer guns, but pushing out the lever is simple enough and it doesn't require any tools. So that is a plus in my book.

Both magazines are stamped, Mec Gar, Made in Italy, and hold 15 rounds, they drop freely, no hangups and feel quality. I switched using them as often as possible at the range and had no problems with either one. I also noticed that on one side of the magazine they say,  "CANIK COMPACT  9mm" with 15 rounds at the last hole, and the other side says, "CANIK COMPACT .40S&W" this side has 11 rounds at the last hole. So I guess these mags can be used with either caliber. That certainly saves money on magazines, just make sure you are diligent if loading them up with different calibers.

The main negative is lack of parts. It is a little heavy to CC with, but I didn't buy it with that in mind so I wouldn't really list that as a negative.

Overall I am very happy to add this to my collection, and would gladly recommend it. I am looking forward to adding more CZ clones, and true CZ's as well.

One question to fellow owners, I know the VZ grips are great. Were you happy after adding them to your stingray? Was the difference that great? I almost order a pair prior to even receiving the gun, now I am putting it on the backburner. Or would buying them make the gun that much better? (I was looking at the VZ Frag grips specifically)

Thanks again guys.

Thanks for the review and pics, I find I'm attracted to the desert tan look of your stingray. I'm curious and tempted by CGWs Copperhead P-01s, largely for the chromed barrel, but for $320 for the Stingray, that leaves lots of moolah for CGW parts!.

I was going to hold off purchases until after tax time, but I may not be able to. Might have to add some desert tan to my collection!

Gotta stop looking at this forum! (not)

I ended up putting the P-01 rubber grips on mine.  Did have to remove a slight bit of the rubber from the backs of the grips because it was interfering with the mags from dropping completely free.  Other than that I love the stock P-01 rubber grips and they were cheap ~$25.  Can't comment about the frags.  Lots of guys love them.

Very cool[emoji41] I'll add J&G to my list. If it was me, that local FFL would have a customer for life. [emoji6]

+1  I have the Stingray in all Black and had a set of PO1 rubber grips waiting the day it arrived at the FFL from Classic Firearms, back when they had them in stock for $319 shipped.  They were on before my dealer was done with the background check!  Rubber grips turned the weight into a plus instead of a minus in my opinion, the feel went from "heavy" to "sexy" (if a gun can feel sexy in the hand that is).  They had to be squeezed into place but I didn't have to actually trim any rubber.  I refer to mine as the nicest gun you've never heard of.  Having both the Stingray and the Witness, I like that the CZ75 Mags fit in both even if they hang out of the Stingray a tad which isn't a problem for third and fourth spare mags at the range.

$24.95.  Picked up 4 mags from them.  They are exactly the same as the factory Meg-Gar and work great.
