Title: Trigger break in?
Post by: corey006 on April 02, 2006, 08:16:55 AM
My first CZ and NEW to the board.

Great pistol, but the trigger is not so great.

I am not up to the challenge of tearing down trigger assembly and polishing and sanding...

Can the trigger be broken in by repeated firing in double action or single action on a snap cap?

Or is this harmful?

Hi corey.

I dryfired my SP01 using a snap cap about 5000 times before the trigger felt "ok". After I did that + fired 2000 live rds I turned it in for a triggerjob. Now the SA is "good".

The trigger-return-spring broke once during this time, to little lubrication was the answer I got on this board. I have done nothing to the DA pull.

Good luck and welcome to czforum.

I asked CZ USA this question and they did say it overstresses the trigger spring if you fire continually in DA mode...

Not sure what to do....

Should I pre-order a trigger return spring and fire away....but what is the point if you ended up sending it in for a trigger job in the end anyways?

I dryfire mine continously in DA mode..

Matt and Angus have said to lubricate the spring...and so far I haven't busted mine yet...

( mine does have an action job from Matt Mink)

Corey.

Go ahead and fire anyway. Based on my experience I should order a spare spring (theyre cheap so why not) but no need to forget to lubricate.

My gunsmith wanted me to run a few 1000rds thru the gun before he did a triggerjob, but if the smith You are using doesnt mind just do the triggerjob and see where You end up.

OK thanks.

I will keep breaking it in and see what happens...What do you guys recommend for lube.

I have CLP BreakFree, and AeroKroil which would be better?

Or is there a specifically designed product.?

According to another member, there's a bit of a backlog for service at CZ-USA.  You might want to call them before you decide.

If you have the SP-01 with a safety, changing out the trigger return spring is pretty easy -- if you use a "pilot" pin to hold the spring and trigger in the properly relationship when installing.  If you've got a decocker model, some folks have had some difficulty.  (I have no direct experience with changing the trigger springs on the decocker versions of CZs.)

I was looking at how to change the spring and have a couple of questions.

It looks like a split pin that holds the trigger in but it looks mushroomed on the ends?

How do I remove trigger pin...just tap it out with a small punch and small hammer and does it matter from which side?

If its like the other CZs its a solid pin, is mushroomed on both ends by staking.  I've only seen SP-01s, thus far, so can't speak from experience.  It shouldn't matter which way you drive it out.

Correct you can drive it out either way but I suggest bot driivn it all the way out it is a B*#^H to get back in if you do. Just drift it enough to get the trigger bar out.
The stake it back over using to center punches.

My dealer is shipping me a replacement spring.

Rather than using the solid pin and re-staking which I am sure to flub up and scratch my gun's finish would it be all right to replace it temporarily with a roll(spring) pin.  If I size it right it should not fall out?  I am sure it will be plenty strong enough too any thoughts?

Then when I send in to get trigger, competition hammer and spring done I will have him do the solid pin and stake it.

I would stay with the solid pin it really is not difficult to re stake.

hi guys!
I have received my first SP01 :)  it seems a great gun but I have just a note: honestly I hope the trigger could be improved because the DA is really hard, also with the competion parts of Angus (that I think they are indispensable! thanks Angus!) but maybe the gun has to work a lot before giving judgments :rolleyes

Honestly I would prefer a trigger more close  for my short finger, the actual is a little bit distance for me but it's a personal opinion.
does it exist any short trigger for the Sp01?  I 'm thinking to bring the pistol to a gunsmith just to know if it would be possible customize the trigger reducing the distance (emphasizing the trigger curve for example).
I know that it could not be so necessary ( the pistol works well also with this trigger) but I guess that there is always something better to do to improve the gun performance :)

ciao!

If you have the SHADOW version, it has the straighter trigger, which increases trigger pull length.  If you have the standard model, it has the trigger with the greater curve.

You can go for a lighter hammer spring, and that will lighten the DA pull.

Dry-firing and using the trigger a lot will smooth it up, but won't do much to make it feel less heavy.  (A good action job, with replacement of key springs, would change the FEEL of the gun and the trigger dramatically.)   A heavy trigger isn't necessarily bad, if its smooth.

Was a bit of a pain for my first time but managed to get spring changed and re-staked the pin.

As a bonus I didn't do any damage to the gun either...

Now I have 1300 rounds of ammo to chew through:\
