Title: Buying a CZ-82
Post by: Blocks on February 05, 2015, 01:14:58 PM
First time poster here, been browsing a while.

As far as Dallas goes it seems that there are no traces of the CZ-82 anywhere to be found. I bought a CZ-83 from SOG and I love the bleep thing. It's given me the bug and now I know for sure I want a 82 as well.

I haven't seen any in LGS or at gun shows. There's a local listing for a reblued CZ-82 for $450 with wood grips and 2 magazines. 450 is pretty darn high, what do you guys think?

I love mine.
I would say be patient and one will come around soon.
I wish you luck.

So what would you consider the going rate for a 82 in good-vg condition? Around 300?

In addition to the wood grips, it appears someone has stripped and blued that 82.  It looks nicer than they came into the country as surplus pistols.

Tough question. I got mine about 5 years ago for $220 at a gun show.
I know that they have gone up in value but I didn't think that much.
I would think about $350.00 or so is the max I would go.
Hopefully some others will join the thread and correct me if I am way off base.

Looking at completed auctions on GunBroker, there are a lot of CZ-82s either selling below $350 or not getting bids when priced above $325 opening bid.

Let me reiterate, it's 450 reblued, with english walnut grips, 2 magazines, the original holster and 275 round of 9x18. I figure if I don't have to pay for an ffl or shipping then it's a more even deal.

Today, I would expect to pay $250 to $350 for a CZ82 in good-to-very good condition.

One way of looking at that deal is that: a) the walnut grips certainly add a bit extra to the value, and b) the second magazine (if it is a 'crossed swords' original CZ mag) with 275 Makarov rounds are worth an additional $100.  An original holster and cleaning rod in excellent condition are only worth an extra $10 to $20 at most.  That makes a decent $285 CZ82, plus the walnut grips, the ammo, and a second magazine seem to be worth something north of $400 to $425.  With no shipping and no transfer fees that looks almost reasonable, if you really want it, the bore checks out, the pistol functions properly, and the magazine catch releases nicely from both sides.

As far as the re-blued finish, it probably does look better than most of the current mil-surps I see.  It actually looks to me like the pistol was stripped and 'cold-blued', rather than the much more durable 'hot-blue' finish.

The CZ82 is one of my favorite, best shooting handguns, and if you can afford this one, I am sure you will like it.  I myself would be much more comfortable buying that package deal for $400 to $425 cash.  It would not hurt to ask. Most folks who own one are not interested in selling it, and it has been a long time since I saw any in stock at the online retailers.  I sold a CZ82 for $267 in October, 2014 and another one for $275 in October, 2013.  They were not as good looking as the one pictured, but they were both fine pistols.  If you keep looking diligently, you can find one for $300 or less.

I do not think this offer is a total rip-off, but the price seems a tad high.  You can find and buy a lot of nice handguns if you have $450 available to spend and the time and patience to shop around.

I have to apologize. Ididn't realize it came with 100 rounds of ammo. That does make it more palatable to me as well. Mayde a tad high but if it is solid mechanically not a bad deal.
I would agree with il.bill.
Maybe haggle them down a bit.

Sounds like a fair deal if you wanted a blued 82.  Great looking pistol.

Well I went a picked her up, here's a photo of the sisters!
Payed 425 for it, a little steep, but the beauty of the gun was worth every penny!

Very picturesque with the wooden grips. A guy in CA (via TheHighRoad) sold me some excellent wooden grips which are Thai.
They fit perfectly.

Although the original black grips have superb ergos, these Thai grips feel good and add very nice color to a black gun.
Similar wooden grips were seen weeks ago on E-Bay.

Beautiful gun.  Just as a data point.  AIM surplus had CZ 82's in stock a couple of weeks ago.  They were priced at $289 plus shipping, was $15 bucks to California if I recall correctly.  So that's $304 for a stock plain Jane surplus condition CZ 82.

Got my 82 two years ago at Vans Deer Processing and Firearms in Brandon MS for 299. Came with 2 mags, brush, holster. Google and call them-they may be willing to ship to your ffl. They are used-not pristine. Mine shoots great.

Good looking pistol.  $425 may sound a little steep now, but in 2 years people will be wishing they could find one at that price ;)

A good bit of reading about my CZ-82 and its commercial version, the CZ-83 in .380 Auto leads me to one conclusion:

There must not be any operational differences between both guns, with most parts (not just mags) common to both.

And if there ever were a ban or high tariff placed on imported 9x18--almost all of the imported varieties seem to be from Russia--the 83 (.380 Auto) would allow us to shoot at a lower cost than using domestic 9x18, assuming that .380 Auto ammo is left alone by our political Apparatchiks.

Sellier & Bellot, Fiocchi and Prvi Partizan all make 9x18 and it is easy to find. Goes for at least $4.00 more a box of 50 than the Russian but much cleaner and it's brass cased. I like shooting it much better that the Russian to the point I never buy commie ammo anymore.

here is pic my 82

If you want/need steel case 9x18mm, Red Army Standard is made in Ukraine (I buy it to feed to my P-64, since it doesn't get along with the PPU 9x18).
